Has anyone had their Lap band longer than 5 years

I've had mine for 4 1/2 years. Lost 100% of my excess weight even. Had to have it unfilled and refilled over and over till they realized I couldn't hold a fill. I've been unfilled for about 3 years now, and have gained back all my weight (now I'm losing on my own) . Almost done with jumping the hoops to get revised to the VSG.

Revised from band to sleeve on June 6th, 2012. Lost 48 pounds on my own in the 4 months prior to revision.

Was banded in 2005. Up down up down. Fill unfill. Finally kept it unfilled to.50 cc. Gained about 25 or so, but then lost all of that plus some on my own. Mainly w WW. Then decided to try another fill after a couple fills not doing anything. (don't really think it went in the port to tell the truth). Got filled 2 weeks ago and not doing too bad. Just having to relearn how to eat all over with the band. I'm very good now at chewing. I was about 271 prior to surgery, and lost to 245 to be ready for surgery due to fatty liver. I am sure I would be so much heavier. I had hoped I would have done better, but I am not sorry at all. I'm still working it, and it is definitely a tool, and sometimes that is hard to understand. You really do have to work in a different way before the band. I can get hungry at times and eat bad stuff that slides down. That's where I have to work harder. But learning things is a very good thing. No, not sorry at all. Just sorry I didn't put my heart into it more before I had given up and had the saline removed. Glad its working again.

Hi Betty, I have had my band 10 years. I had a band slip in 2003 but otherwise have had no problems. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Mona

This month is my 6 year anniversary. I haven't lost as much as I would like, but I've maintained a loss of about 75 pounds (it fluctuates a bit) for probably 4 years now, even with a pregnancy. I did have a slip early on, but I had the bad re-seated and haven't had trouble since.

My fifth year anniversary is in two months.  I have had no major problems, no further surgeries, and my quality of life is a thousand percent better.  My highest documented weight was 263, but at one point I know I was 270 plus.  Today I am hovering around 195. At my lowest I was 177.

I have maintained a weight loss of 60-65 pounds over the five years, but have struggled with being either too loose or too tight after a bout with nighttime reflux two years ago.  I am working with my surgeon now to regain restriction and lose these final 40 pounds so I can get my tummy tuck.

This has definitely been a long, slow and sometimes uncomfortable process. I am grateful for my band, but might have done something different if I had had a choice five years ago.  I am much better than I was, but not quite where I would like to be.

I had mine almost 3 years, but had to have it removed in an emergency surgery, I have since revised to the VSG and could not be happier.

Oh my gosh..

Thank god I found this thread. I was banded in 2006 and lost only 5 lbs. I also have that left shoulder pain and heart palpitations.

I am supposed to go on March 1st to get it replaced with a new band, but was unsure. (My most recent post about this was put up in the lapband forum a few days ago) Now after reading this thread, I am definitely having it taken out.

Can the nerve heal???

I was fearful before, but now I am freaking out. I want this out of me. What did I do to myself. :(
