Use their tools... Use a small plate, small silverware and each time you put a bite in your mouth count to 20 while you chew and set your silverware down. I have been doing that for two months and still feel like I need more practice too. But, I now do catch myself still counting. It becomes a habit!

You can do it!

One of the things I have done is got a toddler fork and spoon plus a divided plate to better see what potions are on my plate. I know it sounds bad to some but it will help eat smaller bites

I'm on the Optifast diet before my surgery, and I found that the hardest part is avoiding the foods that I've relied on for so long.  I deal with this by getting my husband to do the grocery shopping and I don't go to any family functions that require me to go out to eat.  I'm trying to avoid all tempation.  I hope it will be a lot easier once I have my band and not hungrey all the time.  Good luck with your surgery and keep us posted.

I did what my Dr called the week 1 pre surgery diet for 6 months.  Protein shake in AM and at noon.  Meat/veg/starch plate at dinner.  I also did a liver cleanse once a month for 3 months prior.  The Dr said I had the best looking liver he had seen in his life.

Amazing Liver and Gallbladder Flush by Andreas Moritz is the book that

I read prior to surgery.  my surgery was 11/16/11 and I am planning to do another cleanse this month.
Just take your time when eating and do your counting and you will be fine.  Variety was the big thing with me.  I kept getting stuck on one kind of protein shake and burned myself out on that flavor.
