Helpful or Harmful?

Jean,

I so agree with you. It is easy to get caught up the emotions of a discussion. Before you know it you are pontificating about a subject rather than responding to a post. SUPPORT is the key word here. Ask yourself, “Does my response offer the support the person is asking?" If it meets that test, then by all means offer your opinion even if it is “tough love".

So often people who are unhappy for whatever reason (you fill in the reason), come to forums as a way to vent their frustrations and “educate" people on consequences and danger. Is this support? To a point it could be but we must realize when we go over the line and pontificate. It’s then time to go to the Rants and Raves Forum and let it rip.

The bottom line is that people come to a forum for help and advice. Think about how counselors, psychologists and mediators work. They do their work in a positive manner. Seems like a good pattern for us to follow.

Ask yourself before you hit “Submit", “Does this reply SUPPORT the person, does it SUPPORT others reading this post, does it SUPPORT this forum, and does it SUPPORT me as a valued member of the forum?

I love you Jean you are the greatest! You have helped me so much through my slow weight loss. I am still at it and I have lost 84 lbs going for the 100 before my 4th bandiversary in July. You rock my friend. Keep your head up and stay motivated. Love and Prayers Renea
