I keep coming back to your post,  Mark. Maybe it is because that is my hubby's name too ( and grown son's) so I hate to see a Mark suffering.    ...  Anyway, it really sounds like your doctor should have used this smaller band on a smaller person.  I am a 5'3" female with a small frame and my doc decided to use the smaller 10mm band on me ( what size is yours?). because of my inside anatomy.
Unless you are a smaller than average male, my doctor would not have used a smaller band on you.

Btw,  I was banded about 18 months ago and lost about 40 lbs quickly and the rest slowly since then...if you average it over a 6 month period, I am losing 1-2 lbs a month.

My daughter's surgeon (my surgeon too ) placed a smaller band on her because the wall/ thickness of her stomach was smaller then mine even though she was a good 80 pounds heavier then I was. We are the same height too, but the wall of my stomach is thicker then hers.

ahhh.  I understand. Too bad though we don't know if it was a good or bad thing since the band didn't work out for your daughter.  Maybe that's part of the problem with the  band...bacause of our varying anatomies, the few sizes of bands offered are probably not enough to cover the range of differences.

5.0 cc in a 10cc lapband  (four  fills) 1 unfill of .5cc  on 5/24/2011.
.5 fill  March 2012. unfill of .25cc May 2012.  Unfill of .5cc June 2014.

Still with my lapband with no plans for revision. Band working well since

last small unfill.

HW: 267lbs- size 22-24  LW:194lbs  CW:198lbs  Size 14-16

Our first bands were the same size, it was when we had our second bands placed where I had learned this information. I absolutely believe that there are not enough choices in band sizes to choose from. My daughter and I are both sleeved now.

I am sorry things haven't worked out for you.  It's been a struggle for me as well and though I have lost 150lbs I have had to work my butt off for it.  When I got the Band I also thought the hunger and cravings would go away but they didn't.  The only thing that has (thankfully) happened is I can't eat as much.  But I still want and can eat cookies, cakes, fries, pies and so on.  My saving grace is that I get full faster and I don't graze all day.  I had to learn to make better choices...like instead of pizza or fast food for dinner (I was guilty of this)...I have baked chicken and veggies now...that sort of thing.

That said the biggest reason I lost weight is I workout 6 days a week 60-90 minutes a day.  I include running, weights, and stretching.  When I started my rigid exercise routine is when I started to drop weight...not when I got my band.  Don't get me wrong my band helps curb my appetite, a lot like a diet pill helps the average dieter...so I would never want to lose it.  But I do know about struggling with this band and I can relate.

I also have been thinking about going to a therapist for food addiction.  I do believe I have a food addiction.  I think many of us do.  I ate my way to well over 360 lbs and was still eating.  I love food and think about it all of the time.  I obsses about it.  What I should eat, what I shouldn't eat.  I cheat and then feel guilty.  I look forward to eating like it's some kind of party.  I have an unhealthy relationship with food.  And I think now that I have fixed the problem...I want to fix what caused the problem.

Crystal,
I am so happy to read this!  I am having these same issues.  The band is working for me, I have lost over 45 lbs, but it is a struggle!  I am so glad to not be able to eat as much, but my cravings are still there.  I am pretty sure my biggest problem is an addiction to food.  I have been making such better choices and exercising and I am seeing results, but it is WORK!  I still say this has saved my life.  I feel so much better.  I feel pretty again!  It makes me feel good that I am not alone or just a wimp.  I wish you all the luck for continued success!

Mark please don't feel bad because there are so many of us that have gone thru the same thing and about all that will fix it is a revisiion to another surgey that will work, myself I would go VSG because it does take out the part of the stomach where the hunger hormone is. Altho for some folks that doesn't work either. My band has always been either too tight or too loose, then for no apparent reason it just kept getting tighter, no new fills no extra stress just tightened. I suspect it is scar tissue that continues to build up. Your doc sounds like mine and I don't think they lied as much as I think the manufacturer glamorized the band to surgeons who in turn promised us the moon. Now the info that comes with the band is a bit different, it says it can cause erosion and slip and isn't meant to be in for life. I was told there would be no reason to remove it unless there were problems with the band itself. My heart goes out to all of us who have been misled by Allergan and Realize, they promise the moon but have their fingers crossed behind their backs while we lose out all around! Hang in there and maybe even try some counseling to deal with the cravings, sometimes that's all we need is a tool \to help with our brains. Good luck!!

Hugs. A LOT of us were lied to about the effectiveness of the band. I had 17 fills in just over 2 years and never hit restriction. It has been a complete waste of time and money!!! I am hoping to revise over the summer to VSG, or at least RNY. I would strongly suggest you revise as well.

You might want to join the failed band group on Facebook. There's a link below.

I had a simiar experience to yours.  Many many people with the band have had simikar or worse results.  I had revision surgery and while in the operation my doctor discovered the band had caused a hiatal hernia.  For many hormones play a huge role in obesity: ghrellin!  RNY addresses this issue.  I had RNY last year and finally the fat is decreasing.  I have already lost 4% body fat in four months.  I think the revision surgery is easier to qualify for.  You may want to think about it.  The band fails many people.  It was very popular when it was first approved years ago but in this day and age many people have found it is no more effective than the pkd abandonned stomach stapeling debacle popular in the 70's.

I had my surgery Feb 16, 2011 and I've only lost about 35 pounds,  I have a 10 band with 8 ccs and I have alot of stuck episodes and some vomiting.  I'm not excersising and I know I should, I'm just so depressed that I haven't lost more weight.  I wish I would have had the gastric bypass or the sleeve, but I was a self pay and the doctor assured me that I would get good results from the lap band,  Well, good luck to you,,,,

Carol I have heard Duncan speak about the band and he is at the very least "misleading" about it. Some Drs. push the band b/c they make more money off of it. Money from the surgery, then the fills, then for the complications, then the eventual removal, and sometimes even another revision surgery. The band can be extremely profitable for them!!!
