No matter how long you have the band, it will fail eventually.

Just saying!

There is no need for those who have had success with band for over 3 years to be condescending with those with failed bands.  It is NOT our fault that our band failed us.

Paula, if your band failed you, I am very sorry, no one is "happy" to hear of others failure or complications with the band.....Many have failed victim to surgery centers and their band placed wrong...no one is happy or dancing to see that.

I will be 7 years post op in a few months and actually feel better than I've felt in a long time band wise. Do I fear complications..NO....Do I expect complications...NO....Do I think my band will last forever....THAT.. I don't know, I don't have a crystal ball to predict what will happen down the road in 10-20 years, but all I can say is....I don't keep my band too tight and so far so good, I can eat about 2 cups of solid food now and I don't have any adverse reactions unless I eat thick bread or eat too quickly....but other than that is smooth sailing so far.

Have I had any problems last year...Yes, I was a little tighter than I am now and I had a cold and my band tighten up and my cough did not get better...so I took precautions and got some saline removed in December and the cough went away immediately and I actually *like* my current restriction so I decided to not go back to add saline, I think I am at a comfortable point now that allows me to eat a balance diet of solid food with no issues but still have restriction.. Again the band is all about lifestyle change and being responsible for what goes into our mouths..

If you are speaking about my post of being mislead about the band I am sorry if you feel this way, but remember there ARE MANY LONG TERM lap banders further out than I am and are doing well.

This is what I hate about band bashers, if YOUR band did not work for YOU...it's not going to be dooms day for everyone else...I support those who's had issues, but I WILL NOT support people that generalize and PUT everyone in the same boat...does the band have a high complication rate? YES...but most of the issues are not serious and MOST importantly MOST of the issues are preventable with good aftercare and having a skilled surgeon, .....

If your band failed you I am truly sorry to hear this, Band Issues and why complications occur ARE WELL DOCUMENTED....I am not being judgmental, I just know that I've seen and heard it all...that's all I am saying....

I have to say that there seemed to be more than a little schadenfreude from some people recently over Jean having to have a revision . . .

Paula, that is true in some cases but that is also true with any of the other WLS out there also.

I know people from the gastric and sleeve that have failed with their WLS.  All the people I know have failed with the gastric they are heavier then they was before they got the surgery, my aunt had the gastric done and she is so damn skinny and unhealthy now . She is worse shape now then she was when she was fat.  I know people that have gained weight with the sleeve.

It dont matter what surgery you get any of them will fail at anytime .

Everybody knows the risks when they sign on the dotted line for the surgery its a chance we take to be skinny and healthy knowing exactly what can happen.

Hi Paula,

When you say the band will eventually fail, what do you mean?  No weight loss, revisional surgery, port replacement?  And did yours fail and why?

Thanks!

Okay, then. Proof and stats, please, that ALL bands "will fail eventually."

If you don't have it, then please stop playing Chicken Little by screaming that the sky is falling.

sorry, but I think as long as the person is trying to better them selfs health wise why not?
If it fails it fails, but for now I am happy with my weight loss.
I do not like other to inject your bad vibes on me.. so... so what if it fails, for now I have better health than befor the band.

Except that sometimes, when it fails it nearly takes your life and leaves you with damage that can never be repaired. Those are things that many doctors don't tell you.

You know what they say, Opinions are like a_holes, everyone has one.  What is your motive in saying this.  Why speak in such absolutes.  Nothing in life is for sure except death and taxes. What a horrible thing to say and you are doing it to only stir up controversey.  Especially to all the newbies here.
