Hi All,

I only recently found this board and am so excited by all the amazing stories I've read.  I am scheduled for lap-band surgery on Wed. Feb. 29th.  I'm reading through all the pre-op information but thought I'd throw out this question here and I'm sorry if it's been asked a hundred times.
What was your favorite "food" that helped you through the first month after surgery being on liquids then mush diet?  My paperwork only lists 5 or 6 things and I just can't imagine eating chicken broth morning, noon, and night.  I wanted to know what you found that was healthy, filling and just different tasting during that first month.
I've also ordered Jean's Bandwagon book and it should be here sometime next week!  Thanks in advance for the replies!

Lap Band on 01/30/12
I am post op just finishing my 3rd week and I was on clear liquids only 3-4 days, then regular liquids 3-4 days then pureed for 3-4days and now I am testing everything out. No fill yet so I am just practicing my chew chew chew and portion sizes and figuring out how to get my 60 proteins in!

It is not bad at all, I am more worried about the first fill! Best wishes to you!

Congratulations!  So happy you haven't had any issues yet.  What did you "eat" during the regular liquid and pureed days?

Protein drink, SF jello, clear soup, crystal light, SF Popsicles. Then for reg liquids added tomato soup, yogurt, pudding. Then pureed chicken, mashed fish, cottage cheese, mashed cauliflower. Now testing everything! I love chicken salad so it was pretty easy. My main problem is I hate tuna!

Be prepared for big bathroom changes!

I used split pea and ham soup and put it in the blender, it was filling and a liquid!
I will be using it next week after my fill also.

I am on my 9th post op day.  I did clear for 5 days, then started on full liquids.  I am so hungry sometimes, I could eat the chair I'm sitting in.  Going to MD on 22nd.  Will start mushy foods on the 23rd.  Did anyone get a little in their band before 6 weeks?  Have lost 16  # so far,  but I am mostly hungry.   Any suggestions or comments?

Hello,

I had my surgery on 12/8/11 and the doctor kept me on Clear liquids for the day of surgery then back on to the protein shakes for 2 weeks, then on to mushies for two weeks, then regular foods with the testing and such. I had a few different blended foods that I really liked, as a matter of fact I sitll eat them!.

1 Wendy's Chili with the hot sauce packed! (I still bring this home and blend it)

2 Blended Chunky Clam Chowder, any kind of creamy soup really (sounds gross, but was a great change)

3 Scrambled Eggs with El Pato Hot Sauce and a bit of Sharl Cheddar Cheese

Good Luck with your surgery and keep us up on your progress!

One friend used mashed potatoes. If you are southern, grits with cheese mixed with other things were my go to food. I pureed chicken, pork chops, beef etc and froze it in 2 tablespoon size, then threw them into broth, grits or other soups to add protein. That worked very well for me. I have had difficulty with egg or any kind unless they are pureed and added to other foods, breads, tuna, and chicken can be a problem. The funny thing is I can eat steak. Perhaps I work at chewing it more carefully than I do the softer foods. The time passes quickly to solid foods and then the work begins.

THanks everyone.  I really liked the freezing of pureed meat idea for later use.  One protein shake down for the day.  and 3 hours till lunch.  really trying not to snack between meals.  Though I'm not sure why, only getting about 650 - 700 cals a day, so............Oh and the great news is this morning i weighed 279!   17 pounds gone forever!!!!!
