Surrendering at last...

I had the Lap-Band procedure in 2010 after which I lost 45 lbs, over several months, then hit one of those evil plateaus. I had several band adjustments until it felt just right...not to tight and not too open. After continuing my gym workouts 4-5 days a week and doing the protein shakes and the other new eating habits, I never lost any more weight over the next 3 or 4 months.  Needless to say, I became frustrated. Then in June 2011 I lost my job after many years.  Since being unable to find another job the last 8 months, I have put that weight back on.  I feel like a schlep.  The job thing is certainly depressing enough, but sitting around here on my butt all these months and eating the wrong foods has been a lap-band killer. Now I am back to my surgical weight and miserable. I have to have a "rebirth" of sorts and get back to losing weight again.  I want to get back on the weight loss journey to a healthier and longer life, employed or not.  I began going back to the gym several times a week, but admittedly, this unemployment has really made me lazy and hard to get motivated.  I need and would appreciate suggestions of how to get back to the lap-band lifestyle, diet and thought process that is possible as proven by so many of you.  Sick and tired of this poor me crap and need to focus on success here or a new job won't matter.  Thanks in advance!  Jerald

I, too, hit a huge dry spell. I finally started reading about Jean McMillian's book: Bandwagon. I ordered it and it has helped a lot. I also started using Myfitnesspal.com to keep up with daily food, protein, carbs, calories, water, exercise......everything. And it's free to join.

Good luck getting back on the "bandwagon."

I hope that Bandwagon will re-inspire you and also give you a band refresher course to help get you back on track.

Good luck!
Jean

You may never get that initial enthusiasm back but that doesn't mean you can't succeed. When you decided to have wls you were probably willing to do anything to make it work. Revisit the reasons you had surgery in the first place. Then, just fake it till you make it. You may find yourself becoming excited again.

Good luck

I think that being here on the forum or even finding a local support group is a great thing. It's amazing what you can learn from other people and how they can inspire you.

The Bandwagon book is very helpful. I am trying to break through a plateau too. I had surgery on 3/18/11 and have lost around 55lbs. I have to remember myself that it does take time to lose 11 years of weight. Also, I have found keeping sugar-free snacks in the house (I have the worse sweet-tooth) helps greatly. Fudge pops are 40 calories and help with my chocolate craving.
I hope that you will find a new routine and job soon. It is so hard to be unemployed.
Hugs!
