Question about insurance approval!

Ok, I was approved 6 yrs ago for RNY, by a different insurance than I have now. I had a surgery date and everything. Two weeks before my surgery date I found out I was pregnant...I know, you don't have to call me a dummy. I absolutely do not regret it though! lol

My actual question is...given the fact that I have been approved in the past, do you guy think that will help me this time? Will it help me or hinder me? AND, if you think it will help me, do you think the approval may come rather quickly?

You guys...I have been battling with my weight for SO long. I have 12 yrs of documented weight loss attempts and I have the medical records to prove it. Not to mention the other approval for this surgery.

Do you think I have anything to worry about? Should I be stressing about this. Or should I just sit back and relax, because there is no way I WON'T get approved again.

HELP...feel like pulling out my hair! lol

Hi, Liza,
I understand your fears and frustration completely. I went through it, too. In fact most of us did. The ones you need to ask about the qualification process is your insurance company. Use the phone number on the back of the card. Another source is if your surgeon has an insurance specialist. They can sometimes tell you what your type of insurance Usually requires.

From your profile I see that your BMI is enough that it should qualify you by itself. I don't believe your previous approval will help you with this one but if you can get copies of your records it might be of help if this is a new surgeon. Just as an overview thing.

Each insurance is different in their requirements before approval. Each plan with the same company has different requirements. If you are working check with your HR person to make sure your plan even covers wls and take it from there.

One thing I would like to mention is that some companies will pay for surgery but not fills in the band, or pay very little. In that case you might want to consider another type of surgery because the aftercare can get expensive. I am blessed that my fills are completely covered. Remember that unfills cost, too. Most insurance plans have a one surgery for life clause so you must do your research carefully to decide which type is best for you.

Good luck, Sue
