air plane?
Hello, I am taking my first flight on Friday to the Virgin Islands. I am wondering the same thing. I have seen people post that sometimes they feel they have been delayed. I hope not, I would hate to hold up my traveling buddies. I can't wait to get this first flight over with to see if I like it. I went and had some fluid taken out of my band today because it was pretty tight and was afraid I may have problems. I know I will be completely stressed out. And this website search said no bariatric Drs. on the island. Kinda scary.
(laugh) Unless you have some kind of weird alien-implanted band, nothing should set off an alarm.
My only suggestion to you is to be careful with eating on the plane. I have been told that air pressure has no effect on a band but EVERY time I've flown, I've been fine on the ground and seriously tight when the plane is in the air.

Well I won't fly for anything but from what I've read from others here there is no problem flying with the band. First they are made from plastic so no alarms. Sometimes the pressure from the altitude causes a bit of tightening but just be aware and go easy on eating till you know if it is safe. Otherwise lots of bandsters fly everyday!
it should not set off any alarms. i had an MRI done the other day and there was no problem. i asked bedore i went in and they told me it was not an issue. i do not believe there is any metal in the band. i was glad to read the post about the air pressure and the tightness of the band. i probably would have freaked out and not known what was happening. thanks for the info. make sure you have your card in yur wallet just in case. Nope -- no alarms, no bells, no whistles ---- no one will know you have a band.
As far as plane travel goes -- here are a few tips (I travel 6 or 8 times a month)
1. do NOT count on an airline or an airport to have food that works for you --- pack something that you know you can eat easily -- you can be delayed, things can happen - and you need to be able to 'feed yourself' --- I always have a protein bar or 2 in my bag, and some whole-grain crackers, just in case
2. you cannot bring fluids through security, but you can buy water inside of security -- you want to stay hydrated. Pressurized cabins can be very de-hydrating --- make sure you drink plenty of low/no calorie liquid
3. have FUN!!!!

I have flown many many times since getting my band and the only time I was ever nervous about it was clearing security in Cuba. No problems though. Pack your own munchies airports have the crappies selection. I always take a shaker ball cup and a packet of protien powder along with a gallon sized ziplock and a small soft sided insulated lunchbag and as soon as I clear security I buy water and make a protien shake. I fill the ziplock with Ice from any restaurant and stick it in my cooler and later Im good to go. I always feel tight after flying and keep it light the day I fly, could be the nerves too.
