Ignorance
You have to understand that a lot of people HAVE done all that, and have STILL had the band fail them.
And, let me see - you had a Roux-N-Y and yet, you know everything about banding and band life? To quote your own words, " I'M SORRY, BUT, I NEED TO SAY IT AGAIN....WTF?" Frankly, for someone who had problems with their first surgery to come in here and tell people what to do - especially someone like yourself who, since you are labelled as a "revision", clearly did not take your own advice, is pretty damned arrogant.
Did YOU do all of the above prior to having you RNY?
It's time for you to toddle on back to Know-It-All Land, or wherever it is you wandered in here from, 'kay?
If that's the case, let me share my own story with you. In 2000, as the lapband was still undergoing experimental testing, I began research weightloss options. I had less than 100 pounds to lose (75 to be exact) and I instantly gravitated to the lapband since it seemed the least invasive compared to more drastic weightloss surgical options.
I spent months researching every WLS option available, attending multiple surgeons' seminars, interviewing post-surgical patients before deciding that the lapband was right for me. My insurance denied me because I didn't meet the BMI requirements and because lapband was still deemed "experimental" at that time.
I hired the best obesity advocate attorneys and battle the insurance company and won. I had lapband surgery in May 2001 and was totally pleased with my choice UNTIL about 7-8 years out when I began experiencing negative issues with the band.
Did I regret my decision? NO! Did I think I'd ever have issues with it down-the-road? Not really, but I did.
Obviously, you had issues with the RNY, if you've had to revised. So, even doing your research can never fully prepare you for "down-the-road" issues.
I agree with you...people NEED to do their research, but that doesn't mean the option that best "fits" will be the best in the end. No need to beat those people up when it doesn't work out for them...
Excuse me?! First of all you want to start a post insulting and BASHING bandsters............and then you don't even have the balls to keep the post up! You go and delete it after you start ****! VERY TACKY!
There are plenty of RNY'ers that do just fine long term, so perhaps YOU were IGNORANT as to what to expect and how to maintain post op with RNY!
And for someone that shouts that ppl need to be 100% informed before they let someone operate on them..............I must say YOU must be ignorant if you researched 100% on the band and will still let them put a CRAP-BAND in you!
For future reference though...........ppl may not agree with you, but they will have a lot more respect for you if you leave your posts up instead of deleting them and pretending you never said it!
Seriously! If you are going to post and delete, maybe you should make your profile private and not leave it on your blog! LOL
"The level of ignorance on this board is astounding. When I had my RNY in 2002, everyone was an authority, or had to be bc WLS was still "new". I don't think many went into it without serious amounts of research and planning. Now days, I think people think its just a minor operation and that its commonplace, "everyone's doing it"....the questions I read posted to this and other forums as well as the questions I am emailed about the band, BLOW MY MIND!
People are having this surgery without any knowledge about the procedure, the diet, the follow-up fills, the expectations, etc. I'M SORRY, BUT, I NEED TO SAY IT AGAIN....WTF?
Information is POWER. People, do your research. Chose a reputable surgeon. RESEARCH, RESEARCH., RESEARCH.
Ask how many surgeries he has done?
What is his complication rate?
Slippages? Erosions? Removable not reversible?
His opinion on revisions?
Why this surgery over something else?
Ask him what his fu care if like?
Does he have a support group?
What will my life be like after the band?
When will my first fill be?
How much does a cash fill cost incase my insurance changes or I lose my job?
Will the weight loss be as fast as the RNY?
How often are you going to do fills? In what increments? When is the first?
Do you pre-set the band at surgery with a minor fill?
All I am saying is don't let someone operate on you unless you are 100% informed. And, from what I am reading/witnessing, more than 50% of you are not. SAD. You are setting yourself up for failure, without even knowing it, bc you may have chose the wrong procedure or the wrong doctor."
