Were you honestly Mislead about the Lap-Band?

Dirk good to see you again, it's good to see ole timers and really good to see you are doing good, many think veteran bandsters "don't exist" we do, we are just out enjoying life...

It's me Naomi incognito

I wished more vets would post, the only ones that show up these days are the ones that are in trouble...and it makes it appear that all lap bands fail after a few years, I know this is not true, but for newbies it paint a very different picture of the band which is not good.

No, I was not misled about the band. My bariatric team did an excellent job of patient education and aftercare.

But...somehow I came through all of the consults and classes without understanding that it would probably take several fills for me to achieve optimal restriction. That was probably a function of my own wishful thinking!

Wait a minute Dirk is out 8 years , has lost 260 pounds and is happy with his band????

I'm sorry but according to some local "professionals" you are not allowed to exist.
Get back in the dungeon with the unicorn and big foot!

Really man, where have you been?
I'm like the only guy with a band on the men's forum.

If I was mislead, it was like Bette...I was told it would come off very slow.
I'm down 92 pounds since September 29th.

What did I do that makes you say that?
Are doctors not allowed to have an opinion, or have some fun?

I have an active practice. I love my patients, and am honored to serve them.
And I usually get top marks on patient surveys.

Huh. Maybe being a regular guy is a good thing for a physician.

i think your apathetic - and i believe i relayed that to you in a post yesterday....

you know the one that some just have bad luck?

don't put your profession out if you don't want to be challenged by what i perceive to be the worst kind of bed side manner.

MBO's are good to have in place - surveys, well....they are.

HAHAHA
yeah you know me so well.

You don't know a damn thing about me.

I'm not here to be anyone's doctor. I'm not trying to advertise myself, or my practice.
I'm here as a new bander hoping to gather information and learn from the vets, and occasionally hand out a little information or support when my newbie status allows.

I've never said other opinions aren't allowed here, and unlike the other multiple "doctors" here on OH, I don't tell people what to do medically unless it's to see a doctor.

My doctor and his team were VERY frank about what exactly the band was and how it worked.  They even had a fact sheet that spelled out every piece of it...slower wt loss, fills required, not a magic wand...that they went over with you and then had you sign.  I saw a nutritionist and a therapist who specialized in eating disorders and compulsive overeating.  I went into my surgery with my eyes wide open.  I was a binge eater and a emotional eater.  There are times I still fall into those behaviors...bit am fortunate becuase the things I liked to binge on (fast food, bread, pizza and chips) no longer go down so well...well except for the chips...however I can't eat the volume I used to.  So having a soft or hard stop is very helpful for me and has really helped me realize I have had enough...and also I physically can't eat anymore.  So it works for me.  Since I've lost weight I've also discovered I actually like some forms of exercise and find that a good stress reliever, so that's been helpful also.

This is exactly why I was researching the band.  I went with the sleeve because I wanted EXACTLY what the LapBand offered without all the fills and unfills something more permanent.

Excellent post!!
