How much protein is too much?
Does anyone know if there's a thing as too much protein? Or a better question, if you're doing 1600 calories a day and trying to stay low carb (like under 40g) then what is an appropriate amount of protein to aim for?
MyFitnessPal has me trying to get 200g protein per day to stay within my calorie, carb, and protein goals. I have for the past week, gotten about 120g per day at most.
Simply curious if there is any reason not to go that high. It seems awfully high!

Gosh you weigh alot less then I do and Fitness pal only has me at 66 per day and that is just about what my doc and personal trainer said for me to eat. They said eating to much protein is not good for the body .
Fitness has me at
1800 calories per day
156 carbs
66 protein
59 fat
2500 sodium
Gosh I dont know how you stay under 40 carbs I would be passing out if I went that low. I eat alot of fruits and veggies for meals and snacks and gosh I eat around 50 to 100 per day in carbs .
Doc and personal trainer told me your body can only digest so many proteins per meal like 20 or 30 grams of protein so I always stay around 60-90 grams of protein a day .
Thanks. Been a long time since I saw my nutritionist. I think she retired, lol.
You can configure Myfitnesspal to be custom, for example, I told it I want to eat 1600 calories a day and have only 10% of that come from carbs.
For me, once I get started, it's easy to stay under those carbs because I am not eating fruit, bread, pasta, rice, anything with wheat or sugar. The cravings and basically desire for those foods go away pretty fast. I can't do this "forever" but I need to eat this way to lose weight (as I did for my first 90 lbs.) I am trying to lose 11 more in the next 8 weeks to make a personal goal. Once I get to a weight I want to maintain, I go back to about 100g of carbs a day.
I am not actually getting the 200g of protein a day, I'm not sure that would even be possible! But I can tell you that eating 120g a day really lessens my appetite for other things.

Yeah, I work out 6 days a week these days. I've only been trying to low carb it seriously again for 8 days so I guess only time will tell if I am getting too much protein or something. But it's just weird because if I am eating only 10% of my calories from carbs, the other 90% has to come from protein and fat, so there's not much choice but to have super high protein.

myfitnesspal tells me i don't eat enough calories too -
my surgeon wants me between 75-85, but i do try to aim higher. some days successful - some days not.
i've picked back up exercising regularly & i don't see how i could get to 200 without supplementing protein drinks all day long.....which i don't want to do.
