I began my journey with the Lapband. I had surgery, and was switched to the Realize about 3 years ago. They thought it was an infection due to white cell count super high. Ended up being nothing to do with my band at all but my band initially was not in a perfect spot. I was much heavier than you but in over 3 years I have lost about 300 pounds. I have not felt any difference between the two types of bands really. I like most, stay away from bread and soft tortilla shells. Anything else, I can handle in moderation usually. No issues at all with planes etc, its made of silicone so does not set off any alarms, unlike my knee :) Do your research and know that no WLS is perfect nor is it a miracle. Its a tool to help you with the amount of food you take in. Its up to you to make the choices of what foods you choice: thats the hard part lol You will hear both negative and positive results from the band. In the end, this is a personal decision. I myself even with a few minor issues, am thankful for my band and the healthier person it helped me to become. Best of luck as you start your journey!

I had a helluva time with the lapband. It nearly killed me, actually. It was the worst decision of my life. That was back in 2002 and it's been like a horrible rerun, watching my friends go through complications with banding. It's really not a good long term solution for weight loss AND it causes more damage than you'd imagine.

I recommend reading the Revisions forum carefully before making your final decision. I wish you the best with whatever you choose. But know all the bad stuff that happens frequently so at least you aren't blindsided if anything should occur.

Good luck to you, Damon.
