UGI questions

I'm having my first UGI on Wednesday. I've read the instruct. and one thing it says that it's important not to burp. OMG, I burp drinking a little water, if they are giving me something like alka seltzer, then that chalky stuff, how the heck am I supposed to not burp? Also, do my WLS office have to wait for the radiologist to send their report? That takes 5 working days!!! (this is being done by a non WLS office, but ordered by my WLS DR, I will take the copy of the xrays with me) Any suggestions????

I just had my fourth UGI last week. They are not bad and I don't think that the drink tastes that bad. I was never told not to burp...just had to swallow a few times for them to see how it goes through the band. As far as your results IDK my doc's pa was there with me and watched the monitor with the radiologist. You would think that they would want to be there with you in case you need your band adjusted they could do it under xray to make sure you are at the right fill level. Best of luck. TMI but make sure you drink lots of liquid after because the stuff can constipate you and it also turns your waste white.

Thanks for the info. It really IRRITATES me that my Dr's office has this done somewhere else and WAITS for the results. I thought I would just take a copy of the xrays to their office, right away. I will find out what that is "about" next time I go in.  On the pre instruction work sheet, it states they give you some sort of alka seltzer stuff, maybe that is for non banded, jo smo, pre instruction sheet. At least I get to take a copy of the xrays home and will be trying to figure it out by myself, maybe I'll post a picture. I will remember to drink a lot of water, after!

I totally understand about being irritated. They should be there with you especially if you are getting it done because you maybe having an issue. It is a foamy chalky drink. I got one of my ugi on a cd it is pretty neat to look at the band and tubing and port.

Thanks, Wendy. On the instructions sheet it states those two things, I think that is the sheet they give to all for an UGI, maybe "I" wont have to do that part, I hope. Swallow a burp, still gets me. Good luck on that one, if I have to do it.

I had my second UGI right before this unfill in November.....my doc requested that I bring a CD of it with me to my appointment.... I just let them know before hand that I needed a CD of it and they gave it to me...had to wait about 20 min. after the procedure but no big deal...the report came days later but my doc was able to look at the CD right away.....won't hurt to ask...the time before I mailed it to him.  

I  told them that I didn't want the carbonated drink because of the band and they didn't give it to me....

They did put on my paperwork to give me the CD, not sure if they will do it right away, but I will ask, thanks, again!!

Great, glad they put it on there.....I kept repeating it for every new person that attended me...they should give it to you....
