Lapband because for one thing it's turned out great. And for another, I have had to truly change the way I eat and think about food because we don't have the help of malabsorption that people with RNY get. I know that if only some of the calories I ate "counted" I would personally test and cheat that system SO badly. I love that with my band it keeps me honest.  Also, I don't want to deal with the side effects RNY potentially has lifelong like dumping syndrome. The risks and complications of the band were worth it for me. I wouldn't change my decision, though if I could have, I might have done the VSG the first time but I can't say that for sure.

Highest Wt: 274 / LAP-Band Low: 180 / Sleeved at 233 / Goal: 160!

I lost 90 pounds with the band (gained back some in the last few months due to an unfill) but would never trade the band for RNY now would I get a VSG hell yes but they didn't have that option or it was too new at the time I got mine.

The band like any other tool works if you work it (medical complications aside, the band does not agree with everyone even if they do what they are supposed to).

But for me RNY is nothing I even considered for many reasons, and I would never say anything against any weight loss surgery they are personal decisions and they all have pros and cons my insurance covered both.

Good luck and I am sure you will do great which ever one you pick!

Thanks,

Michele

 Band.
Talking to a fellow band person and we agreed that people don't realize that what ever wls you have you still need diet and lifestyle change!

The sleeve. I don't need malabsorption. I loved my band and it worked well for me but it eroded and had to go.

Yup, I'd go with the band again.  However, if I ever have any issues when my band had to go I think I'd go with the sleeve.

I got the lapband in 2001 and maintained goal weight for 7 years without ever needing a fill.  Started encountering issues with the band in 2007 and my band experience went from awesome to HORRIBLE!

I revised this month from lapband to RNY and I can say I definitely love the RNY more!  I only have 20 pounds to lose, but I have absolutely NO hunger and I don't feel like anything is sitting on my chest...have eaten all kinds of food without dumping.  I love not feeling the band inside of me.

I'd personally choose the RNY over the band now.

Was VSG an option/consideration for YOU?  Im curious, cuz Ive seen several former LapBanders  that
HAVE TO revise to RNY due to severity of erosion n are not happy about the intestine re-routed deal.

On the reactive hypo...dumping  only 1/3 of  RNYrs get that anyway... that's the last stat I saw on that...~ 2 years ago!

Im so happy that you are at peace with RNY...and your rockin yer pouch ,-) forevermore!
