Thinking of getting banded ...any thoughts???

I am aware of her and her antics. She is one of the reasons I left the boards years ago about 6 mo. after my band surgery. Just got sick of it all.I just want people to know there are real risks and while some people are successful yes, you have to weigh the odds and decide how you wanna go.
I think with the band it's just a matter of time. I was lied when I was told it could be in there forever, that just seems so implausible now seeing what it does to people in short periods of time.
One side note, I have noticed that most of the long-timers I see who are successful have the older 4cc bands. I wonder if there is any correlation. Maybe the bigger bands are not "all that". I have the 10cc and it was supposed to be all awesome. Just interesting IMO.
You know the funny thing is.........I always hear that ppl leave the band forum b/c of the "band bashers" and all the "negative" talk. I have tried to say that for every bandsters that leaves b/c of "band bashers", that at least that many, and probably more leave b/c of of the BANDSTER BASHING! That blame the victim mentality is NOT attractive at all! (Yeah YOU Nana!)
Now as far as the 4cc band I have heard that they actually do work better that the new standard or large bands, at least in regards to restriction. Hmmm............Perhaps I should get another band???

Lol. Gotta have a sense of humor! :-)

Now that is a really interesting observation! I have never noticed that about band sizes. I have always vaguely thought that having the old 4 cc band, as i have, was something I just had to accept and that it was a pity! I am going to keep an eye out for this now you have mentioned it.
I have started thinking about the successful long term bandsters I know personally and, yes, most have the small band. But, of course, we won't know for a few years as if we define long term as over 5 years, all the bands implanted were the 4cc ones! And I guess people like N.M. and Zee S had the small one too. Basically, almost by definition, if you are long term you will have had the small band! So, on second thoughts, may not stack up!
But I am going to look out for it now.

I had the 4cc band and never needed a fill for 7 years, but when I finally did try one when my weight started to inch upwards, my nightmare started! I personally prefer not to have the band in me now because it became a pain in the ab! I think anyone with the band will eventually experience an issue with it at some point in the future...just my opinion.
I have to agree with Nana on this. I also thought that you could not have a band over the sleeve. You need to do some research on this.

Remember Airhead? She has band over VS Plication. And if I'm not mistaken, I think I may have seen one or two with VSG that were later banded. It is my no means common though!

Somewhere I think I read that Airhead is considering another revision - to DS.Bette she posted that about a wk. or so ago. Actually from what she said, it's not really considered a revision........more so a "completion". Apparently the plan was to do a modified DS (plication instead of regular VSG and with the band) as a 2 part procedure. Now that she has lost enough to make the full DS safer, they will go in and fini**** and remove the band at that time. I don't know. It seems kind of strange to me to put a band on a plication to begin with, especially with the plan to remove in about a yr.
Anyone know of any others having the procedure done like that???
If one restrictive only procedure didn't work, then why add a second one when the chances are it won't work? That would be my first thought, my second being that I doubt it can be done b/c the band is anchored to the stomach, and with the largest part of your stomach being gone it seems like it would be impossible.
I don't have even one good thing to say about the lapband. I had mine out 6+ years ago. Last night, I spent hours with referred left shoulder pain as a reminder of my time banded. The referred left shoulder pain is from diaphragmatic damage caused by the band. Just when I think I'm all healed from the damage it caused, I get a reality check that I will probably never actually heal fully. The band is "removable" but it's certainly not "reversible."
I don't recommend it as a good long term solution.
I was really excited about getting my band, too. I even went on TV and let cameras follow me right up to the operating room. I only wish someone would have been able to tell me how awful it would be so I could have changed my mind.
