Hello - Longtime reader, first time poster. Tomorrow is my two week check in w/ the surgeon. Things have gone really well so far, no problems, etc. I've lost about 10-12 pounds on this fabulous (not) liquid diet. I can't wait to get the green light for soft foods. I've bought a tiny skillet to make my scrambled egg whites in..yum! The next two weeks is soft food - any suggestions for meat purees that actually taste good? Thanks!

Welcome to the Losers' Bench, Minnie!

Purees were, for me, way less difficult and gross than I thought they would be. You can take any food you know you like, throw it in the blender/processor, add a little broth/water/juice and puree it.

My doc allowed prepared baby foods at the puree stage and, I have to say, I avoided them like the plague. I don't know how BABIES manage to choke that crap down, and they don't have a choice!

welcome to the losers bench!!!

It suprises me how excited your are about the pure stage i was actually grossed by it, i ate mostly apple sauce, yogurt and smash potatoe which wasnt bad i really stayed away from going in too quick take your time and try one food at a time. You can pretty much blend everything you want but remmeber you dont need the extra calories :0 enjoy the early stages thats when you will lose the weight faster :)

I may be different, but I actually enjoyed the pureed stage, but I was on liquids 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery.  During the pureed stage I still did a protein shake almost everyday to make sure I could get in my recommended protein, plus it became kind of a habit in the morning to make a vanilla shake with some instant coffee in it!  I would throw almost anything into the blender for a meal, a favorite of mine was Chunky's Clam Chowder.  I also would make a crock pot of Ham and beans and put them in the blender with some chicken stock or even skim milk to have the consistancy of soup.  I was just so happy to have something that was not sweet that I really did not care!  I hope you find some food that you enjoy while on this phase.

thanks all!  I had scrambled egg white w/ 2tsp of fat free feta...I think a few mmms slipped out while I was eating.  I will experiment with pureeing meats, I think a non spicy chicken mole may be in the blender soon.

My favorite was chicken salad with reduced fat mayo. I have to admit that I probably had to put too much mayo in it to make it edible. Put my mouth was sooooooo happy. I did discover that chicken breast were very dry and switched to chicken thighs (you can buy boneless ones with no skin) You can boil the chicken and use the broth for lots of things and it tastes so much better than canned broth! You can also add some broth to the chicken salad to keep it more like a puree.

Oatmeal was a standby. Tuna salad. Any Cambell's Chunky soup can be pureed and has great flavor. Cottage cheese and canned fruit with the juice (no sugar added or packed in juice)

My diet included soft foods with the Pureed section. Yours maynot. I could have baked fish (not too dry though) ground turkey, egg salad, crab meat.....ah the omeltte possibilities!

Make sure you follow your nutritional guidelines. It will pass before you know it! Good luck.
