Newly Banded!

I had my Lap-Band surgery done on December 12, 2011. It was a choice I was comfortable with after serveral years of putting it off. I have been overweight ALL my life, I know no other life but that of an obese person and that scared me. My highest wieght was 463. On my surgery day i weighed 386. i am now about a month out and will have my first post op appointment on the 18th. So far I have only lost 5 pounds. ( which I found disappointing) but it isnt due to the surgery itself. The surgery went fine and I thank the good lord that I had no complications so far.  Its the way I choose to eat. I am able to eat most things with no problems and the amounts are more than enough. Even though I have restriction I can eat a good meal for example for breakfast I can eat 1 packet of instant oatmeal, 1 slice of toast, 1/2 banana and 1/2 cup milk before I feel any thing but its alot less than I did eat before the surgery so I am happy solely with that part. Once I have a fill I believe I will have more restriction and better results. Did anyone have a smiliar situation after being banded? I have to get the 30 minute/day exercise part in though, which I've been struggling with. Any suggestions?

(laughs) MY BEST suggestion is to relax. Whether you CAN is another story.

I agree with Bette- relax :) 5 pounds in a month is awesome, plus in my hospital they  prepared me mentally that I may not be losing any weight for many months until my band is adjusted properly. You are doing more than well, don't worry :) you didn't put the weight on over night, did you expect to lose it over night?
Roll on weight loss!

i agree ...relax!

as far as excercise...it doesnt need to be 30 minutes continous..try walking.  it's the best and safest way to start.  go for a ten minutes walk three times a day....you're doing great!

I have had that same struggle.  I had my lap band done on the Dec 20th,2011 and during the 2 week pre op diet I had lost 14 lbs..and then after surgery I had gained almost all of it back with fluid and stuff. I can still eat ANYTHING I want. Some days I eat less, some days I can eat more.  I really don't have much restriction period. Yesterday I weighed and I am finally back down to the 14 lbs I had lost before surgery so that makes me happy. Maybe it is working now.  Just ready for my fill. Don't get one til Jan 25th. Seems so long away :(

I was banded 13 mos. ago and every time I see my doctor he grills me about not losing like the band really works. I feel that unless I do weigh****cher or something else I won't get anywhere with this band. During the month of Dec. I went up 5 lbs. I haven't lost anything since last June. just going up and down the same weight. I had a fill that did nothing. Then got another the following month and then wound up in ER having fluid taken out. Last month he wanted to put fluid back in but to be honest I had such a bad experience was scared to refill. Now I have to see him in a day or so and with the weight gain plus I can eat anything and truly have to measure and stop or I can eat a full plate and then some...So what I'm saying is you have to really diet. Now I need a fill and don't want to have a problem and don't know what to do....

I haven't had a fill yet so not sure what to expect but I would think they wouldn't put much in your band so I wonder how much he filled you at first for you to have to go to the ER! Yuck. I hope you can find your happy place soon.  That would be so discouraging not losing since June. I pray your doctor visit goes different this time and the fill works!!!

My doc. is conservative with my fills. I have a 10 cc band yr. had only 3 fills. one in the 1st 3 mos. then had a sm. unfill. not until oct. did I get 1cc at that tuime it had been empty. Then got the next because that one did nothing. then I had 1/2 removed in ER but truely think he removed all only because I can eat anthing I want without feeling like I have a band there. I had a hietal hernia repaired during the surgery. I never new I even needed that. He had me have a GI to check on it after th 1st unfill. Last visit he wanted me to repeat it cause he is causious bugt I didn't cause I recently lost insurance...

I'm getting my first fill tomorrow, on the 11th.  I'm nervous but excited to see what happens next.  After the surgery I lost almost 30 pounds.  I was banded on December 1, 2011.  I've been stuck at a 26 pound loss with all the holidays and all, I cheated...a nibble here, a bite there.  Now I know I really can't do this.  But I still haven't touched bread, pasta or potato since Thanksgiving!  My reward for good behavior is buying two new shirts...in a smaller size!  I hope my fill goes well.
