Had mine removed in Nov. laproscopicallyalong with my gallbladder. The doc said it was inflammed around the band. Had the surgery that Friday and went back to work that Monday with some pain but just moved a little slower than usual. Recovery time was about a week and 2 days. Now I am doing great, back at the gym. I am going to have RNY in Sept. if all goes well. Good luck to you!

I experienced random tightening with my band. I would be eating fine one day and then the next day I would be unable to even drink water. This happened again and again despite numerous unfills.

I began to regain any weight I had initially lost and I was getting sick all the time.

So, I had my band removed and revised to the sleeve in the same surgery. All went well with my surgery and I have had excellent results with the sleeve. No problems.

Good luck with your removal!

I had horrible chronic pain with the band. I had referred left shoulder pain (severe), abdominal pain, constipation, inability to eat solid foods, gagging, puking, reflux, esophageal problems, malnutrition... I dealt with it the best I could for as long as I could. When I got to the point where I couldn't lift my head off the bed, I knew I HAD to have it taken out. I didn't have the strength to even walk, so what did it matter if I were fat or thin?

The band REMOVAL was infinitely easier than the band placement surgery. I felt so much better after band removal, it was like I was given a new lease on life. I didn't care about weight anymore, either. After having gone through such agony every single day for 2 years, I just wanted to be alive again.

I regret getting the band and I DON'T regret having it removed. I do regret not having it removed sooner since I have damage that probably could have been prevented, had I listened to my own instincts.

I'm very sorry you're having problems, Sherry. I hope you can get the band removed and feel better very soon.

I had to have mine removed due to erosion. I was not able to convert to any other surgery because I am no longer obese (my BMI is about 26).
The surgery was virtually identical to the first EXCEPT that after a couple days I could eat anything I wanted. I did, however, have a drain for a few days which was uncomfortable.
What I haven't had that I expected to was a big increase in hunger. I eat a little more than I did before but it is mostly fruits and vegetables. And I am religious about exercise. So far my weight has remained the same.
Good luck.
