Aspiration Peumonia
VSG on 04/06/12
I have had the band since aug 2007. Last May I had aspiration pnuemonia the day after a fill. I had partially unfilled and started back with fills. During my period of limited restriction I gained back approx 30lbs, I got adjusted up and was losing. About 2 months after my last fill it happened again. My Dr. now thinks I should have a VSG. Any similar stories. Since my band has NO restriction I am gaining weight VERY FAST !!! Trying to decide what to do ....Thanks And Happy Holidays !
Absolutely COME ON OVER SEAN!!
You've had a good run with LapBand...it does have an AVERAGE 5 year shelf life...before most people have some sort of problem with it. As MANY lapbands that are bein done in US ...you see VERY VERY FEW that have LapBand after 5 years. They're the exceptions to the rules.
Aspiration induced pneumonia...is something that YOU WILL NEVER EVER worry about post VSG.
I just posted an article 'case study' of pulmonary LESION occuring from lapband REFLUX 4 years out. The person had asthma. Looked like it was aggravated by fills. A few days ago...may wanna read that!
Since yer surg. is suggesting VSG to get your weight under control...and LapBand causing you more GRIEF than GOOD....GO FOR IT!! Don't be scurrred! I was too at FIRST! Its not natural to cut off 85% of a normal functioning organ....well nor is it natural to put a yoke around its neck ,-) ......RESEARCH a PERMANENT SOLUTION with the LEAST side effects and maintenance ..not the antithesis
PLEASE make sure your surgeon (I think he's brilliant btw! VSG ROCKS!!) is quite capable in REVISIONS...ask him how many he's done....the number may be UP THERE! Also ask about LEAK RATE in revisions...know that yer at a slight higher RISK (a little over 6%) for one because of lapband damage to your stomach.
