I had no pre op diet, except to stop eating and drinking at midnight the night before my surgery.
I personally started to limit my carbs, take smaller bites, eliminate drinking with eating and lost 18 pounds before surgery.
I was self pay, so dod not have any insurance company dictating my eating, and my surgeon didn't require a preop diet.

You will see there is quite a difference here between different surgeons. My surgeron asked for the Liver Shrinking Diet - NO carbs at all. I did this for 14 days and lost 17lbs. My liver was smaller and easy to be moved and manipulated to get the band placed properly. Some others require liquid only diets and others require very drastic - very scary diets. I'm not sure why some require diets that are almost impossible to follow and just lead patients to depression and self-loathing! We've been through that enough already! Also, we need to be in the best physical and nutritional condition pre-op as possible!
My diet was NO carbs, but no calorie restriction and no fat restriction. Liver shrank and I lost and I wasn't starved. Lucky for me since I had to go on it during the holidays!

12/09 and 6/11, 9 skin removal procedures with Dr. Sauceda in Monterrey Mexico
Revised to the Sleeve after losing 271 lbs with the LapBand.
My insurance required a 6 mo dr supervised diet. it isnt to see if you can lose a bunch it is to see that your willing to make changes. then my surgeon required a 2 week liquid diet pre op to help shrink the liver.
hope this helps
