Bye Bye Lapband

Had my band removed yesterday, mixed emotions.  Found out that I had another hernia and the hernia he fixed at time of placing band needed repairing.  Feeling good, except for gas pains.  Unable to take deep breath or cough, hurts too bad.  Using Gas-X and moving as much as possible.  Cannot go out for a walk, too much snow.  Time heals all.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone.

U might not see it that way now, but it's a blessing. At least it's out before it can cause further damage!

Be glad that they did remove your band before it did further damage. I had my lapband put in in 2006, within about a year, I had problems with it herniating, they took out all the fluid and told me that would solve everything and I would be just fine,
Give your stomach time to heal itself"...
Well, I have had problems off and on over the past 3 years, then all of a sudden last Friday morning, around 230 a.m., I went to the ER, (second time in 24 hours), I had leukocytosis, I ended up in emergency surgery where I almost died.
Come to find out that my band should have been removed years before instead of just deflated. It has slipped anteriorly and destroyed over half of my stomach. They had to remove the band, separate the band from the liver (thank goodness it wasn't destroyed), and remove over half of my stomach.
I was just released from the hospital late last night after a week in the hospital, with a gastric sleeve, which will now change my life forever. I am in severe pain, my original doctor I have found out has moved to 4 different states since my surgery. I am thanking God that I had a surgeon who was willing to save my life when I needed it, but also so scared for what is next. I have a long recovery ahead of me and praying that no one else has to go through this unneccessarily....

OMG.  It sounds like you have been thru a lot.  I am glad you are doing better.  I was thinking of getting the sleeve, but have decided against it.  Need to get serious about losing weight the old fashioned way, going to try Slimgenics, my hubby lost 45lbs and has kept it off for a year.  Hopefully now, I will be able to gett back into the gym.  Good luck

I'm sorry to hear that you had to have the band removed. I know that it's disappointing, to say the least.

I hope you can heal well and feel better soon. After I had my band removed (due to massive complications) it seemed like a weight had lifted off of me. But I remember being very scared and disappointed, as well. In the long run, your health will be better for it, however. I wish you the best.

Merry Christmas to you, too. Hope you feel better really soon.

Thank you for sharing this! I just can't believe so many people refuse to believe how seriously dangerous our bands can be. This also scares me some because I had mine emptied earlier this year just to hopefully keep from doing anymore damage to my stomach all tho I haven't had a slip or anything serious it just kept feeling tighter and caused reflux. I am just praying this will hold off any serious problems until I can get a revision later on. I wish you much luck and quick healing and again thank you for sharing the dangers of these blasted bands!

i'm so sorry to hear of all the problems with your lap bands.
It is a dangerous however for me I'm ok. For now....
It is scary to hear that things can go bad after several years post op....
Is there anything a person can do to PREVENT problems from happening?
