Hi, do you guys have room for 1 more on this board? Pardon me...excuse me...*settling in*

I have been overweight since approx 1995. It has been out of control for about 10 years. I am a master at losing 20lbs. I can probably do it in my sleep...and then put back on 25lbs. Rinse & repeat. That's pretty much how I got to this point.

I am at the very beginning of the process and have been lurking this board for awhile. I've been to a seminar and just met for an initial consult with my doctor. I have a 6mo wait to make my appts and such. Tentatively looking at a July 2012 surgery date. Setting up small goals at first, afraid to hope for a 70lb loss, but that's what I'm going to work towards. Hello!

Welcome!

Of course there is room for one more!  Your story sounds a lot like most of us, I 'm sure.  Congratulations on starting your journey and I wish you luck while on your journey.  6 Months is  a long time to wait, but use that time to help you figure out you!  I mean try to understand how you gained the weight was it emotional eating, eating out of boredom, overeating, grazing, poor food choices etc.  Once you start to understand this part the rest will be a breeze!  Remember any surgery can be beaten, but it is a wonderful tool if you use it.  I am a realative newbie.  I just had my surgery 2 weeks ago today, but this journey has been fantastic so far.  I have lost 34 pounds total and 27 in the past month.  This is not because of any miraculous thing that I have done, but I just followed the doctors directions to the letter.  I have also only had the protein shakes for 4 weeks, but I stuck to them religiously.  Today I did have my first real food albeit "blenderized", but I have changed my eating habits because the "band" made me!  I eat slow and savor the flavors.  It has been awesome!  I wish you the best and welcome aboard!

Of course there is room for one more! Always room for new ppl in here b/c old bandsters are constantly revising to better, more effective WLS's, or just having their bands removed!

Most recently was Bexie. We tried to tell her what the band was really like but she thought she knew better than any of us that already had the band that tried to warn her. She got her band and had it removed in less than 2 weeks.! Yes you heard that correctly......2 WEEKS! Of course that is an extreme case. Usually complications doen't start for at least a month. Usually at a few years out is when they commonly occur.

Do yourself a favor. Before you get the band, go to the VSG, RNY and DS forum and ask the ones that are at least a yr. out how they like their WLS and tell them u are considering the band. U will find a lot of FORMER bandsters on those forums as well. If the band was that great........they wouldn't be getting it taken out and revising to a different WLS now would they???

 Welcome!
There is always room in here, because many of us are revising, or revised to other surgeries. I wish I'd done more research before getting the band, but after a losing a few more years, a few more dollars and gaining a few more pounds, I'm wiser and hope to revise to the sleeve. Do lots of research before going under.

You will read the good, the bad and the ugly on this forum so be sure and do the research and in the end, you make the decision thats best for you! Good luck as you begin your journey!

Welcome to the board.  May I suggest that you use the 6 months to practice by eliminating carbonated drinks, learning to chew, chew, chew, and other practices that your Nut will offer up when you go for appointments.  I did that and it really helped me to become a "member of the band".  I love the band & I am still learning things about the band.  I use Sparkpeople.com and follow a few WLS blogs as well as OH.    Good luck!
