Last Sat the 16th I got really really really sick and was throwing up like crazy.  (no food) Just a lot of dry heaving.  Can this cause a slip??  Just wondering how easy it is to cause a slip and how would I know if I have one or not!!

Supposedly, a slip isn't that easy to cause.  It would take sustained abuse "they" say, but *****ally knows?

It could all hinge on how well the band was sitting during a period of stress on the band, such as throwing up.  Mine slipped early on, which my second surgeon says was due to poor placement in the first place.  (bad first surgeon).

After any period of throwing up your esophogus will be very swollen and irritated.  Please stick to liquids for 24 to 48 hours to allow for the swelling to go down.

Thanks for sharing.....I have been doing liquids for the last few days but was just so worried I may have messed something up.  :-)  I do not feel differently or anything but I was throwing up pretty hard and with a ton of stress.  My band is really not tight and I have like less than 3cc so I am hoping that the looseness helped.

Merry Christmas!!

Lap bands are not easily to slip as long as your surgeon installed it properly and you allowed it heal well before starting fills. Isolated vomiting does not caused band slippage, repeated vomiting every single day several times a day on a very tight band usually will cause slippage...AKA (Lap band abuse).

If you got sick from a stomach bug, the usual treatment is to go on liquids for a few days to let swelling and your stomach tissues calm down, the tighter your band is the more problems you will have. If you are still having problems after 2-3 days you should see your surgeon.

Any type of adverse symptoms such as frequent vomiting, night time regurgitation aka.. reflux should never be ignored more than 1 week.

My original band slip was caused by a 24 (more like 48!) hour stomach virus that I got from my kids, I actually felt the slip happen and went right to the ER.

If you had one, you would most likely have symptoms like a change in restriction, pain while eating and drinking, heartburn, night cough, sever reflux (usually worse at night and when laying down) or general abdominal pain (although this pain can sometimes be referred and you will feel it in your lower abdomen or shoulder).

Thanks for the info.  Wehn you say change in restriction are you talking tighter or looser?

Can be either, depending on which way the band slips and how much of your stomach herniates though it.

I didn't abuse my band and have a 5cm slip. Vomiting was rare, I got food stuck plenty but ironically didn't start vomiting until I had already had a slip, due to the position it is hard to get food down...

They happen. I had a skilled surgeon who did a good job placing the band. If you don't feel mysteriously tighter, or nauseous/vomity after your virus went away then you are fine.

When you have a slip you will usually present with heartburn/reflux, unexplained tightness, and nausea.
