OT - Help Please-teenage daughter leaving nest & wants our tax refund

Thank you SO much for the great advice.  Its funny...my husband has observed that I get so relieved to find a solution that I don't always look further, being so relieved to find a solution.

Well I saw it in action.  Jodi: I read your response last night and I really thought that was a great
idea. Things have been so tense with her (hormones and all) that i tend to want to do too much.
She and I didn't get a chance to talk last night and I'm so glad because it gave me time to read the rest of the replies.  I still loved the idea though.

Crystal, when you said this: "Your daughter committed tax fraud by claiming herself on her taxes because she would have had to answer YES to the question "are you responsible for 50% of your support ",   it really clicked for me.  


So when she came home from work this afternoon, I told her that I'm really sorry she's still hurt over last year's taxes but when she checked THAT BOX, she was getting money she was never entitled to.  Next year she will be able to claim herself because she's moving out in February. Her boyfriend's parents have let him claim himself since he was 18 so she thought it was a "choice" we were making. No..its just he hasn't been caught by the IRS yet.


Thanks to the rest of you for the perspectives I needed!  I feel so much better. (Bexie, I'm so glad you're here but so sorry about your band but happy you didn't suffer long with it..I hope you can get the Sleeve soon)  Twoxover, thank goodness I didn't have to go that far but I;m saving this thread in case this subject comes up again!

..its  better now since she realizes it was fraud.  She wasn't happy but I think she understands. 

She's off to her job's Christmas party and I'm off to mine!!  BTW..a NSV today..went shopping for a good bra to wear under my party dress...Instead of overflowing out of a 44DD, I'm wearing a 40DD Bali Minimizer. OMG..my girls are snugly hugged and look GOOD.  ...its the little things.....
