Hi there!

I can have bread, but it just has to be toasted.  Softer rolls tend to get stuck.  I also had some cornbread but it was a tiny peice.  Good Luck with your weight loss!

It's not crazy at all, educating yourself is important.

I am one that cannot tolerate bread.  I tried a flat out wrap about 4 months out and it was just not working.  I have also tried a whole grain muffin and that stuck like crazy.  That was just a couple of weeks ago.  I am afraid to try anything else, so it's no more bread for me!  I guess it's just too sticky or something like that.  I was never a sandwich person or a bread person for that matter, so I don't miss it.

For the most part....if you're going to eat bread, it's going to feel like you are having a heart attack. If you want to eat small quantities of any kind of bread and not have it feel like you are having a heart attack, then go with the sleeve.

I lost weight with my band, but it hurt like a MOFO and I now have permanent nerve damage. The sleeve is a much better surgery that will allow you to eat the way the band is supposed to allow you to eat with out all the complications. I've had two bands and I now have a sleeve. My daughter has had two bands and is getting the sleeve very soon. Both our bands slipped, and one of mine eroded. Over 50 % of all gastric bands require a 2 nd surgery.

Most likely cornbread will make you wish for death, if you try to eat it. It will plug up the stoma and your esophagus will try really super hard to keep working (because the esophagus does that, especially when food isn't going where it's supposed to be.)

You'll produce huge amounts of saliva, your stomach will start cramping up, you'll gag, throwing up saliva, but not the actual cornbread, sometimes for hours. The diaphragm will start getting irritated by all the action going on in the stomach and esophagus and you may get pain in the left shoulder.

Then the stomach and esophagus will get inflamed, your band will feel very tight due to this inflamed tissue, and you won't be able to swallow anything but liquids for a day or two.

This can happen with any foods, actually. The only way to find out if something agrees with you is to try it. (And then make sure you can get to a bathroom quickly, especially if you're out in a restaurant.)

OR you might be able to eat it withpout problems. But you don't know until after you get a band. There's no way to predict how your body will react, unfortunately.

I have never had any problem with bread. I need to take extra care with doughy white breads but I can still eat even those.

Some people can't. I am afraid you won't know until you try!

I eat bread, I am going on 7 years post op and I eat toasted garlic bread, thick doughy bread is easily to get stuck so I avoid that, but my favorite is a small cup of chili with a small piece of buttered corn bread, the only difference is I can't eat much.

I was a BIG bread/carb eater.  You're taste buds will change and you won't crave it like you used to.  I can eat bread sometimes but not very often.  I can usually eat cornbread, but I go slow and make sure it is not too dry...

The reward is much more motivating then the carbs ever were ;o)

Even when my band was wide open bread would cause me to be stuck, uncomfortable and the inevitable PB so I gave it up very early in my journy and would try it every once in a while and it was always a no go for me. No rice, cornbread, pastry or stuffing for me when I was banded. With my sleeve, I can have them all in small amounts WOOT!

Cornbread is an issue because it's so crumbly.  It's hard to chew into a paste before swallowing.

I used to love the cornbread muffins at Cracker Barrel, but they're not worth it anymore.

I can do bread sometimes.  Toasted is easiest.  Things like rolls from Logan's or O'Charleys are a band blocking death wish!!!!  (as in you'd wish you were dead once it plugs the ol' blow hole!!!!)
