The problem with Plantar Faciitis is it can be symptomatic of something else. Mine turned out to be because my so-called sprained ankle was really a broken ankle and severed tendons. I visited no less than eight different orthopedists before turning to a podiatrist, who, as luck would have it, was a surgical podiatrist (very few podiatrists are) as well a teaching surgical podiatrist. It took me 12 years of agony before this podiatrist inserted a piece of titanium between some of my ankle bones, reattached the tendons, AND removed the soft tissue growth caused by inappropriate physical therapy (prescribed by multiple orthopedists). Following six weeks in a non-weight -bearing cast (i.e., in a wheelchair) and about five month of physical therapy, not a spot of trouble since (although I will never have full range of motion in the affected ankle, it's pretty close, though).
The point I'm trying to make is: follow the instructions and advice from the doctor and, if it doesn't seem to help, go back to the doctor or get a second opinion. What works for some doesn't work for others.

What an awful experience! And good advice. He saw his GP ( family doc) and was referred to a specialist ( general andcsurgical) podiatrist. Xrays showed nothing and he is going lo have an ultrasound scan next week.
