Lapband revisions?

Hon please don't blame yourself or feel bad like you did something wrong! There are many, many of us out here that did everything we were told to do and had little to no success! I followed everything to a T for the first year but gave up after that because I only lost about 40 lbs total, have since gained alot of that back, I never felt good restriction I was always either too tight or too loose. We were fed a line of crap about the band from Allergan and now we are paying for it. I finally had mine emptied to hopefully avoid any more serious issues since I no longer have bariatric coverage. So you are not alone, once you get a chance to check out the failed band board you'll see it wasn't you, it was the crap band!

Thank you for your kind words! I really appreciate the support. There was a post shortly after mine that listed all the things that people do wrong, which in turn causes problems, but I did everything right! It was mentioned that we are in control of our restriction but that was not the case for me at all. For example, when my problem occured last June, it had been almost a year since my last fill and I felt okay restriction. I had an upper GI at the beginning of the year and everything looked great as usual (despite me not losing weight). In all those months, I was totally fine. Then, completely out of the blue, this extreme acid started coming up. Everytime I would lay down to fall asleep, I would wake up choking on my saliva. The doctors told me I COULD HAVE DIED from aspiration. I shiver when I think about it.

RNY on 02/13/12
I had my Lap-Band surgery in July 2007 and while I didn't have any scary issues with it, I never managed to hit a point where I could both eat comfortably and still lose weight. I went almost a year trying to choke food down without getting an unfill because I was so afraid I would start regaining some of the 60 lbs. I had lost. Last August I finally got a complete unfill because eating had become unbearable and I just couldn't take the "stuck" feeling at all anymore.

Fast forward to October of this year, I met with my surgeon to talk about revision and now I'm scheduled to have RNY on 2/13/12. I know exactly how you feel about being ashamed, but my surgeon made a point of telling me that the Lap-Band just doesn't work for everyone. He said it had nothing to do with me or my diet or anything else, it just didn't work for me. Now I couldn't be happier that I'm getting to have a revision.

Good luck with everything!
