So far...no adverse reactions...today was my first fill...I hope this will continue...

27 pounds in 6 weeks, not much to complain about!

Of course you're thrilled! Almost eveyone is at 6 wks. Generally not enough time for the complications to kick in. Go back in 2 years and read your post and see just how "thrilled" you are then, lol.

I hope you are one of the LUCKY ones...........but MOST ppl do not have success with the band LONG TERM!!!

i got the band in 2008 and i lost 70 lbs with the band and i want to say upfront i loved my band. but i developed problems...i had a slip, i would wake up everyday with acid in my mouth. i spent several months on liquids then i was revised to a sleeve. i love my sleeve, but honestly i think the sleeve was easier because i had the band. the sleeve isnt perfect but it did help me lose 30 more lbs. not everyone has problems with the band, i have a friend who is doing awesome with the band

Thanks. I am surprised at how many negative posts there are about it. I am a little concerned and will have to have a good talk with my doctor!

it can be very confusing...while i do love my sleeve, at the time i was considering wls i felt the band was the safest so that is why i chose that. im really not sure if they offered me the sleeve at first if i would have done it. you really need to talk to your doctor. when i got the sleeve they just started doing it here. in fact i was my docotrs 2nd or 3rd patient

Mandine, that is a wonderful idea. Talk to your surgeon about your feelings maybe do some more research. Have you watched any of the videos on any of the surgeries?

Remember, you have to do what you feel comfortable with. I wish you only the best of luck in whatever you do. There are people on here who actually are supportive. I am sorry you had to encounter such negativity on this site. As like you, I am new too and can't believe some of the posts. Please don't let it discourage you, as it has not discouraged me at all, in fact I find some of the posts rather amusing, and we all can use a good laugh at the end of the day :)

Mandine, did you ever have your surgery?  How did it go?

 Hi.
I was banded a little over a year ago.  I have lost 100lbs and just recently had a small slip and had to have all my fluid removed.  I have been about a month with an empty band and I have gained 5 lbs.  I am not at all happy about it.  I was in so much pain before I was unfilled and I started to hate my band.  I have been doing some research and have discovered that the Lap-band has many complications. Rather than speaking with your surgeon, do some serious research.  Your surgeon will try to sell you what ever you go in asking about.  That is the money maker.  But if you spend some time doing your own research asking questions on sites like this and really comparing surgeries and prices and complications you will come up with the right answer for you.  I love the new life I have and the wight loss, but if I had to do it over I think I would have gone with the sleeve.  VSG..check it out and ask all the questions that you need to.

I loved my band until it almost killed me, you can flip though my recent posts to read my story. I revised to the sleeve and I can not tell you how much better it is then the band. Seriously, I don't know if I was in denial or what, but since being sleeved my quality of life, relationship with food and just all around well being has improved. Please look into the VSG vs. the bands and how the stats match up before you make your decision.

If you have any questions please feel free to PM me.
