Confused about the band
You joined yesterday, you have NO flipping idea what the hell you are talking about.....are you recruited by NanaB to have her back OR you a NanaB's reincarnation? Seriously, no one begrudges those successful with the band, good for them and they have some awesome ladies and men that have had success.
BUT there are asshats out here that believe anyone that has problems (and there are MANY) are at fault for complications when in fact that is total bull****; the band has a high failure rate and success rate is minimal at best.

Cajungirl,
I do not know this poster, people can see evil and bullies, why are you so concerned about the band? All we want IS THE LAP BAND FORUM BACK where newbies and people can get the support they need...that's all, BAND BASHERS created their own personal hate pulpit on the failed lap band forum...please go there to spew your poison.
If you want to find out which surgery is the safest just do a google or go to a seminar...SURGEONS DON'T LIE....

Why? Because my sister and now ex-husband have that piece of **** band that's why. And, we'be spent almost $20,000 out-of-pocket for the band, fills and unfilles because of complications. He's now TOTALLY empty and dealing with PAIN and severe acid reflux and looking to be revised (thankfully he has insurance that will pay for a revision). So yes I will post here or wherever I feel like it hoping to save newbies from all the hell he's going through.
This is a public forum and we have all the right to post here as you do.

She deactivated.....Hopefully you did not report this person as Troll???? You are one mean person...KARMA is very mean....she was very helpful and seeking the band.....what a shame...those who actually want a band gets run off this site if they speak up...they actually have to pretend to hate their band to post here???? This is very very sad.

I didn't report her, yes karma and all that. I don't know why or do I care why she deactivated. If she's that thin skinned then she isn't ready to deal with the lapband or any WLS for that matter.
Yes she is new and hoping to be saved from obesity from the least long-term WLS success "tool". Hopefully she will do more research before she decides to proceed.

What an awful answer, and what a horrible thing to say about another person because he/she was successful and YOU weren't! YOU should be ashamed for yourself to have written that. Of course she knows what she is talking about, you know why? Because she follows the rules and it just so happened that it worked for her. "Please for your health, safety, and LIFE research the VSG" are you their new sponsor now? People are not idiots and they do research. It is what works best for them, NOT YOU! You sound like a very angry bitter woman. Hows about next time using a little more constructive criticism when addressing such a delicate issue...What a mean and nasty response from YOU! You are a cruel judgmental person!!!
I WISH UPON YOU TYPICAL BAND STATS! :-)
The sleeve, or Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG), is a restrictive-only procedure like the lap band. It works by removing most of your stomach, leaving you a very small, easily satisfied, normally functioning stomach.
It is true that once the stomach is gone, its gone, but...why would you want your oversized stomach back? If my appendix ruptured, I'd get that sucker taken out. If I had cancer that could be excised, you better believe I would get it cut out. If my stomach holds a ton of food and is killing me slowly via morbid obesity, then yes, please, let's cut that thing down to size.
With the sleeve, you do not have a "pouch," instead, you have a true stomach...just smaller. The vast majority of sleevers do not have food intolerances. For me, I had way more food intolerances with my band than with my sleeve. Because you are left with a fully functional stomach, dumping is highly unlikely. If you dump with a sleeve then you likely experienced dumping with your pre-op stomach as well.
The only thing I have experienced is a rare bout of what I'm guessing is hypoglycemia where I get dizzy/nauseated if I forget to eat over a period of 6-8 hours. I normally eat about every 3-4 hours and so this isn't a problem. My brother who is not overweight also experiences this, so in my case it could be genetics.
Did that sound funny when I said I "forget to eat" sometimes? Well, when you reduce the size of your stomach, you also reduce the amount of the hunger hormone, ghrelin, that is pumping through your system. So, most experience a significant decrease in hunger as well which is a significant bonus when trying to lose weight.
Please do your research. If you had not heard of the sleeve before, what else is out there that you haven't heard of? Possibly the right choice for you!
Come visit us on the VSG forum and see how normal life is on that side of the street. See how many VSGer**** and stay at goal. Compare it to the quality of life you hear people posting about on this board. Go to pubmed.gov and do some research on the band. Forget everything we say here and read the stats...are you comfortable with that complication rate? with that explant rate? with those poor EWL numbers?
Only you can make this decision...do everything you can to make the best choice.
Best,
Lindsey
