Confused about the band

Success is possible with the band.  I lost over 100 pounds with my band in me.  It took a long time, but I did it.  Weight crept back on (which happens easily with the band) and I ended up maintaining only an 82 pound loss.  I had had enough, and revised.

You've only got 100 to lose; the band may be what you need.  I would suggest the VSG over the band, but again; 100 isn't much compared to most of us.

Best of luck!

You look AMAZING, how are you feeling ?

My friend had the DS with Dr. K back in September and as of today has lost 72 lbs in three months, but that's not the most amazing part of her weight loss surgery success. She was taking 400 ( yes I typed 400 and that is not a typo ) anyways...she was taking 400 units of insulin a day for her diabetes (taking that much insulin caused her to not just sweat, but the poor woman actually poured sweat even while sleeping. She had to carry around sweat rags with her in her purse.) She is no longer sweating, but is still carrying around a sweat rag because she still can't believe it herself.

Whoops, I got off track....My friend is no longer taking any insulin whatsoever and she still can't believe she has been cured of her diabetes. I haven't seen her since she had her surgery because she lives in
Nor Cal and I live in So Cal, but I can't wait to see her. We've been close friends since middle school.

Her only complaint is that the iron she takes is causing minor stomach discomfort. Do you have any suggestions for that so I can pass them along to her ? She is following Vitaladys vitamin schedule recommendation chart.

Lisa.

I'm doing really good.  This surgery is a snap - it just "works" with my body.  I don't know why, but it just does.

My vitamins - I do follow Vitalady's schedule too.  My iron is in the toilet (but it was pre-op as well).  I'm having a hard time getting that up - I'm on a lot of iron, but I'll continue to fight it.

Glad your friend is doing so well!!

And you're doing a pretty damn good job of that lately.  For what its worth, I appreciate you being here and with your informative posts and genuine congrats for us banders that are succeeding. It's nice to see "congrats" without the added "so far".

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that and that " so far " crap really annoys the crap out of me and it's just not nice or necessary. I really wi**** would stop, and I have done my best through PM's to try and stop it

Do NOT under any cir****tance consider the band without thoroughly researching the other options, and for the love of everything HOLY do not listen to Nana. . . She's one of the most lethal and uneducated posters on OH and bashes the sleeve, and has most of us successful revision patients blocked because she apparently doesn't like that we were successful with VSG.

I can give you my personal horror story with my band, but it's pretty much the same as everyone elses. I'll throw it out there that I only had that dreaded thing for 8 months, but today at 2.5 years post my revision to VSG, I am left with permanent nerve damage and pain from the band. I was a stellar band patient, followed every rule to the letter, and it still almost killed me and I lost additional stomach tissue due to the damage it did to my stomach. Not to mention the hoards of scar tissue and adhesions it left in my abdominal cavity that had to be removed because of the pain they caused.

I'm 2.5 years out, just delivered a beautiful, healthy, full term baby girl 4 weeks ago, had zero issue in my pregnancy due to VSG. I lost 137lbs with the sleeve, and maintained my loss for a year until the pregnancy weight crept in. I gained a total of 35lbs with the pregnancy, and at 4 weeks post-delivery, I've lost 25 of those pounds ! ! !
