I'm a band to rny revision. I loved my band. My body didn't accept it. So the revision was done in Jan. I'm down 80 pounds since then. I love the rny lifestyle, and I like a pp loved sugar. I can eat very small amounts of sugar, and not have issues, although I rarely choose to. I keep that line from biggest loser in my mind... nothing tastes as good as skinny feels. I think it was biggest loser. Anyway, for an example, on thanksgiving, for dinner I had turkey of course. I had 1 small bite of stuffing, potatoes, cauliflower, peas, and later pie. I had two bites of apple pie, and one of pumpkin. And I lost a pound Never in my life could I say that before. I'd always gain SEVERAL through the holiday. Since the 11th (been in a stall up to then) I've lost 6 pounds. I gained a bunch learning I can graze. Now I'm learning I don't need to. Much like the band I can eat around it. But do I need to? NOPE! I'm satisfied with MUCH MUCH less food. Especially when living my life like we should (no matter what surgery you have) protein first. Often I can't eat more than the protein, that I need.

My surgery was done as one. I was home 3 days later. I felt great, just tired.

Good luck with your decision.

How did you know your body was " not accepting " your band ?

We are discussing a revision ourselves (my doc and I).  I'm just waiting on my insurance to accept it.  THey anticipate an acceptance soon.  I am actually happy to go with that procedure.  The RNY scares me, my dad had a bad experience with it.  But My doc thinks this will be a better route for me.  Everyone is different.  I have some side things wrong with me.....that my band has caused...... :(  But some people have great success with it.  I would say it is like birthing a baby.....no one will have exactly the same experience.  Personally, I had to decide if I wanted my stomach cut away for the rest of my life, or keep the foreign object in there.  I am leaning towards the cutting away because of the gastric tissue in my esophogus that is now growing and the top of my stomach either folded in on itself or is scar tissued closed.  I recently had my band reclosed as well.  It came open so I could eat anything with 10 ccs in there.  Now I'm to 1.5 and not doing so good.  I'm thinking it is from the top of the stomach being flopped over like it is.  Food moves through the band and then gets stuck in that second pouch before it dumps out.  It is weird to say the least.  Not to mention it is the first case my doc has seen like this.  Weird stuff.  Always an adventure huh?

 Good luck with your revision.

Had mine 9 months ago after 4 years with the band.  I believed the sales pitch and was self pay for both surgeries since my insurance has no WLS in it.

Love my sleeve after 9 months it is what I was told/thought the band would be.

My only suggestion would be to make sure and have a very qualified revision surgeon.  The band takes it told on your insides and the surgeon needs to be really experienced at revisions.
