Who has had a slipped band?

I have been doing great, loving my band, have lost 48 pounds. Last week I started having some discomfort after swallowing. I went to the doctor, they took a picture and said I "was working on a slip". Te doctor instructed me to go on a pureed diet for two weeks. Hopefully it will fix itself, if not I will need surgery to reposition my band. Anyone have experience with this?

I have been luck, in that regard at least, but I am on here frequently and see new ppl posting all the time with slips (among other problems!).

Did your doc take the fluid out of your band ? Most of the girls I have seen talk about slips that they take all the fluid out of the band and be empty for anywhere two weeks to months and most of the time the band will go back into place.

I never heard of going on a pureed diet for two weeks , if he  hasn't taken the fluid out you might want to talk to him about that and hopefully that will cure the slip for you.

Good luck to you .

I did have a bad slip at about 2 years out....first surgeon's bad placement.  I had surgery, in which my new surgeon, re-positioned my band.  All is good now.

Hey There Melly

I don't remember your slip experience because I has the brain pain. Where did your old surgeon place and suture you band ?

Hi there!

My initial surgeon was out of Lubbock, Tx.   Dr. Frezza was HORRIBLE.  I know of THREE people personally that he botched their surgeries.  One was a sleeve, that was really messed up, the other two had bands, that were NEVER EVEN PLACED AROUND THE STOMACH OR STOMA.  Those people couldn't figure out why they could never get restriction.  Well, a band with 10CC's of saline in it, just floating on the side of your stomach will DO NOTHING.

I was lucky, in that my band WAS placed around my stoma, just not in a good position.  Once I got a fill, it started to slip.  I didn't know it, never dreamed that I could be experiencing that just two months out of surgery.  When I had trouble eating, etc., I thought it was just me....and not following eating properly.

Dr. Frezza hightailed it out of Texas soon after my surgery, and my insurance company hooked me up with a GREAT surgeon, out of El Paso, Dr. Acosta.  Let me tell you, doctors are very relcutant to bad mouth each other, but Dr. Acosta had to fix so many of Frezza's screw ups, that he has nothing nice to say about the man.

The band is a frustrating tool, and I experience days where I can't eat good-for-me food, but I know my band is in good shape.  I am thankful for it, even though I would LOVE to be sleeved.

Melly, The band is placed around the stomach (not the stoma) and inflated
with sterile saline to create the proper stoma diameter (this is the area which inflates and deflates inside the band that determines how big an opening AKA "restriction" you will have for your food to pass through.

Oh....when you asked WHERE, I thought you meant what city and state!  ha ha ha ha

Yeah, I know it goes around the stomach.  Almost a 4 year veteran now........where exactly Frezza put mine?  Who knows, all I know is it was around my stomach or stoma, unlike other surgeries he performed....but it was still badly placed.  ha ha
