Trying the band again does NOT seem a  good idea.

I don't fully understand the US health system but surely with all your problems, you could get a different surgery?

I wonder about DS, radical but the most effective . The only problem is thst you have to be very prepared to follow the post op lifetyle and failure to do so doesn't just stop weight loss, ,it can make you very seriously ill!

RNY. With your endocrine issues you probably don't need the metabolic issues that some DS patients are plagued with.

And at the risk of getting cursed at, get into a good counselor.

I wish you good luck and God's peace while you try to figure this out.

Actually, I think that the DS is supposed to be the leader in curing of diabetes.  It is just very stringent on the followup care.  You must adhere to the vitamin regimen exactly because it is the most malabsorptive.

Revision on 07/07/15
Oh, that is horrible..................... I personally wouldn't go for the band again not after two failed attempts. Have you given any thought to a VSG or another weight loss surgery?? You'd might want to try the revision board if you are thinking of another weight loss surgery.

Sweetheart you are dying slowly.  With blood sugars that high for long periods of time you are destroying your organs, your circulatory system all at the same time. Have you had any therapy? Perhaps talking to someone about your eating and your emotions will help you understand why you cant control the type of foods you are eating.   I know that getting your eating in order is difficult, been there done that.  I also know that when my eating was out of control my diabetes was also.  I think that is why the band has worked so well for me so far, I know the things I cannot eat because of my diabetes, so I do not have the same battles as others.  I am not blaming you for your bands not working, please dont misunderstand that.  I know that was not your fault, but you have to get some understanding of what you are doing to yourself with your eating habits.  You can drop your blood sugar considerably, just by eliminating certain foods from your diet.

As well as checking into a different surgery, please check into getting some counseling about your foods habits.  They can really help sometimes.  I am thinking about you.

Do not try the band again, please go over to the DS board and talk to them about the cure rate of diabetes with the surgery, you will get excellent information.

I would not try the band again, ever.  It sounds like it wasn't the right tool for you.

I would recommend the gastric bypass or sleeve.  Please talk to your surgeon immediately.

I had the band, it failed me, so I revised to bypass and my diabetes were gone immediately.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

Oh Marissa, I remember your posts.  I feel bad for you as your life is most troublesome.  You are so young and have so many crisis.

Please honey never think about another band.

Get yourself a good mental health counselor and psychopharmacologist.

Prepare yourself for the ins and outs of what another WLS would be.  Put the duodental switch on the table when your life is stable enough that you will take care of yourself.  No other surgery will do as well for your diabetes.  In the past I asked you if you had  diabetes 1 or 2 and you did not answer.  That matters!

Right now you need to at least have an insulin pump installed.  DON'T MEAN TO BE SO HARSH BUT SWEET BABY, DIABETES IS GOING TO TAKE YOUR EYES, YOUR KIDNEYS, YOUR HEART AND YOUR LIMBS IF YOU DO NOT BECOME PROACTIVE.

Are you eating a diabetes friendly diet right now?

Listen, I would work with you, I would help you.  But youy've have got to settle down and do the work.  What I am getting is that there is some underlying mental health issues to go with your physical ailments.  You must get that in check.  You must see someone for help in that area.  It is not normal to be in constant crisis and then not work to resolve.

I wish you the best.  If I could help in any way, let me know.  For now get yourself to OA, it is free!
