My point exactly...I had my port tubing replaced, but I AM STILL THANKFUL FOR MY BAND. I came on the site with questions concerning my band and got them answered. What I don't like is people telling me how awful the band, how I should have a certain revision, and going as far as to say that I should have it removed because it is harming me.

BTW I am finished responding to this thread because it is the same few hopless negatives that keep posting.

Bye Bye!

If your still thankful for a band that has cost you that much money SO FAR............and will probably have to end up being removed in the next few years so be it.

YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID!

Miss Pug

I was unlucky with my band revision because not only did my second band erode into my stomach, but I was diagnosed with dysphagia ( difficulty in swallowing )& Esophageal Motility Disorder( difficulty in swallowing, regurgitation of food and esophageal spasms. I now have permanent nerve damage to my upper shoulders and back because of my Lap Band.
My Rheumy doctor believes the trauma that the LAP BAND caused to my body brought on my Fibromyalgia as well.

Naomi calls us idiots & accuses many of us of keeping a too tight band so we can lose more weight. THIS IS SIMPLY A LIE. The band will tighten on it's own and even a completely unfilled band will tighten on its own. This will cause a Lap Bander to VOMIT AKA (regurgitate) over and over again through no fault of our own.

Not only is Naomi spreading lies and false information, she is blaming real people who are suffering from real pain through no fault of their own to turn away from THIS forum.

These people need support/help too.

These same people are blaming themselves for " failing " their bands, when in actuality their bands have " FAILED " them just by virtue of putting a piece of hard plastic band around a working soft tissue organ that by it's very nature has to churn the food inside of it in order for that food to digest.

Churn-churn! When food " mush " enters the stomach, the mush from the mouth gets mixed. The stomach is your body's mechanical and chemical food processor. It's a pouch composed of sheets of muscle that encircle the stomach in different directions. When they contract, the stomach can mix the mush this way and that. The stomach muscles twist and churn the food like you would knead bread dough. The lining of the stomach secretes gastric juices, including hydrochloric acid, which dissolves the food, a protein-splitting enzyme called pepsin, and a fat-digesting enzyme called lipase. Like fruits or vegetables pureed in a blender, the food is churned and mixed with the digestive juices until it resembles thick soup. This glob is called chyme.

THIS IS WHY THE LAP BAND IS JUST A BAD IDEA PERIOD !

I will continue to have medical expenses and procedures for the rest of my life......I had an experienced and wonderful band surgeon, but it was the actual Lap Band PRODUCT itself that is causing me a lifetime of pain, monetary expenses, and a family that has to watch me suffer.

That is why I will continue to post about my experience here on this forum. Other reasons I post is so I can refute Naomi's LIES about the Lap Band being "easily fixable" or when she continuously blames others like myself for abusing our bands. This is simply not true.

This lady Amy_Kleve experienced NO PAIN & NO PROBLEMS  with her Lap Band Surgery. She only found out her Lap Band had grown into her stomach & LIVER after her revision surgery.

I'm glad you are excited about your band I would never tell you that your band is going to fail you. I can't do that because I don't know that it ever will, I just wanted you to understand why I post here.

P.S. I don't appreciate being called " Hopeless"

I think if more positive bansters would post more we can band together to drive them away, they are not being helpful to this forum at all, the reason I get so upset is all I want to do is log on to the Lap band forum to stay on track with my weight loss or give a newbie some helpful advice, but you can't do that for all the smoke and band bashing. They can't sue their surgeons or the band manufacturers for band abuse, they will laugh in their faces, trust me if the doctors installed the band wrong, the patient will know this immediately at least within the first year and I am sure surgeons and the band manufacturer have been sued for REAL negligence and malpractice.

If they are on a crusade to help eliminate the band, they will have to take their rants to a more wider banded population than Obesity Help, because there are thousand of banded people around the world and if it was not a safe and effective tool, they would have pulled it from the market long time ago, MANY surgeons and health-care professionals have bands and have had them for years and they are doing well, if 80 percent of the banded population suffered complications or removal I think the FDA would come in and pull it from the market, they will not pull a product from the market if a small percentage of people are abusing it.

You will see more and more band slippages and removals as many people keep abusing their bands, you would think anyone who got a band from 2008-2011, the slippage rate would decrease, but I think it's increasing due to neglect and abuse, they don't worry about being too tight as long as the scale is moving in the direction they want. Surgeons nowadays are using the Pars Flaccid method to suture the band in place. Some people never work their bands or follow rules and when they don't lose weight and they get angry and want a revision, but little do they know ALL surgery's are tools, they just work differently.

What angers me more is I remember these same people when they first got banded, many refused to get unfills when their bands were too tight, many mentioned that ...oh I live too far away for constant aftercare, or I don't have money for an needed unfill, did they think about this BEFORE getting the band? Yes, we all have unforeseen financial issues, but if you can't afford aftercare you should remove saline and not be tight until you can afford an emergency unfill if needed, it cost a lot less than band removal, and yet when their bands turn on them due to negligence and it almost destroys their esophagus or insides from the repeated vomiting several times a day for many years, they come back on this forum acting like an angel from heaven like their bands just automatic caused them complications.

People have always embraced those how suffered complications, now this board have become a complications (I hate my band board)? How can people stay on track and track their progress with every other post, you all are doomed? I think everyone is entitled to their own opinions but the constant band bashing has driven those who use their tools correctly away.

If you stopped and thought about things, you'd realize that those of us who are posting "negative" things about the band are the ones you're going to NEED to help you at some point. You've seen the lackluster response to threads about complications, I'm sure?  Yeah, well, the people who NEED help and support are callously ignored, it would seem. How do you think you'd feel if you started developing complications and asked for help and got NO responses whatsoever? Just because your post isn't full of rainbows and glitter?  You certainly won't be able to count on NanaB to help you. She'll accuse you of having caused your own problems.

I've been diplomatic for years now... or as diplomatic as I can be while still being honest and trying to help. But, I do believe that has come to an end. The more stupid, needless threads I see about "bashing," the less diplomatic I feel like being.  The band has harmed so many people. It's not right to just sit back and watch it happen over and over and over. And your telling people to shut home and "go home" is a ****ty thing to do. If you'd have gone through what I did, maybe you'd have some compassion. Maybe not, though, It seems severely lacking around these parts.

I wasn't going to enter into this!  i am a very happy and very successful long  term bandster. There are very many people like me, far more than some would have you believe. . Nana has done  very well, although over her time on here, in her previous names, she has posted many times about her band problems.  But she is a clear band success.

But we do no-one a service by pretending everything is rosy

People can and do abuse their bands; they can and do bring about their own  downfall.

But others do not! People lke Zee who was a model bandster for years, people like Hislady who never got restriction. People like N.M. who has pemanent damage. I pick out those three as they are OH regulars.

We must accept things can go wrong for some, however compliant they may be. We must not blame the person. It may be it is their fault - but not always. And making people feel like failures is both pointless and unkind.

Jate

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Kate,

you are a true lady.   and absolutely correct.  Some people bring on problems by keeping their bands too tight..and others do everything correctly and still have issues.

I was one that had a fantastic band surgeon,  who does training for other surgeons.  I followed the rules and still had issues.

I know when I had my band,  I wanted to bury my head in the sand and not see the negative posts...I didn't want to believe it could happen to me...I wanted to think that since I had surgery I had made the right decision.   Turns out it wasn't the right decision for me..hence my revision.  However,  because people did bravely post about their issues,  I was able to recognize what was happening with me and took steps to correct it before my issues became even worse and did permanant damage.

Thank you for always being so kind and not blaming the patient.

I agree... and there are a lot of kind, thoughful people on this board in addition to Kate. I think there are some very smart and lovely folks here. And then there are the ones who like to tell others how and when and where they can post.

And I kill every thread by posting about how irritating I find this.
