I didn't mean for it to look like I was lumping in what you were saying with what I have seen from others. That said, I totally agree with you about research. You should always research everything first and make an informed decision. I can't tell you what would fit your needs any better than anyone else can determine what would be good for mine. There are too many factors.

Take care,

Hello Jennliamb007,

Wow thank you for that, I sure thought after reading a few posts that I for sure was not doing the "right thing". I totaly understad that they want us to know all about the "Bad" I get that, but like i said i am no way ready to cut my body up. And like you said I have known many people that the other surgerys have not worked for them either.  So we will deffently have to keep up with each others updates. Let me know when you are schedule for yours.
Best of luck to you..

I agree with Jen.  Going to a local support group is extremely helpful.  I needed to hear from people face to face what their experiences have been with the band.

I was banded in Feb 2011, and I felt all the feelings you speak of.  It's totally normal.  You're taking a big step, so there should be anxiety.  But you have decided to be pro-active in making your life better.  The band takes the most work on your part, so don't plan on just sitting back waiting for the pounds to fall off.  And don't think you'll come out of the recovery room at your ideal weight.  It takes time.  Lap Band takes the longest of all the WLS.

For me, I'm thrilled with my results.  I'm down around 92lbs so far, but my band only did part of that.  I still work out for 1-1/2 hrs 5-6 days a week.  I have good days and bad with my food, like everyone.

If you make the decision to fully commit to changing your life, the band can be your best friend.  Nothing's perfect and everyone has their own story, good and bad.  This is a decision only YOU can make.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing you on the loser's bench!

I was the same as you. I had researched all the wls, had been to a number of support group meetings, spent time here reading positive and negative posts, and nearly drove my family crazy. I had to wait an extra 3 months to get my surgery due to finances and let me tell you I was obsessed. Keep yourself busy. Clean the house, finish your shopping, decorate for the holidays, etc. I even painted my kitchen. It kept me sane. Continue to increase your movement every day to build your stamina.

As for wondering if you are doing the right thing. I really struggled with that. I just knew I had to do something or die. For me the band was the best choice. It is not for others. Be sure you have your expectations in order no matter what surgery, but expecially the band. It is not fast or easy. You will do nearly all the work, and until you get to an optimal restriction you will likely be hungry and frustrated. If you can't live with that please consider another wls.

The other thing I would caution you about the band is that if your insurance doesn't cover fills/unfills it can be very expensive and you would be better off with another wls. The band is high maintenance, in that respect.

Good luck with whatever you decide, and come here often.

Thank you grannymedic1,

Well I guess I can say I am blessed my insurance is very good. Thank God! Well me having my surgery is not a life or death, just yet but it is working that way. I sure don't want to wait to get to that point. My husband is defiantly not wow about it but he is very supportive of me.
Thank you all very much for the kind words.

If you're that nervous about it don't do anything untill you are sure! That being said......please take the time to post the same thing on the VSG, RNY and DS forum. You will find a lot of former bandsters on there. Get their feedback on which WLS they are happier/more successfull with..........the band..........or the WLS they revised to!

Good luck!

It is normal to be nervous! You are starting a new chapter in your book of life! I was really nervous until I got to the hospital, then I was just plain excited. Nothing in life is 100% for everyone 100% of the time so you will see pros and cons with ALL WLS...if you believe 100% that the lap band is for you, then go for it!!
Your surgeon should be telling you all the complications that COULD happen...doesn't mean they WILL happen.
