things I used to do.... And you??

This is inspired by an earlier post by Grannymedic! Here are some of the things I used to do routinely but in secret! Never admitted to anyone, even closest family while I was obese. No wonder I was obese! And people try to tell us this is not a disease!!

How about you??

While cooking a meal, pick so much at the food that I had to cook another batch or there wouldn't be enough for the meal.

After a large meal, eat the left overs while in the kitchen clearing up ( feeling sick from overeating already)

Open a packet of biscuits (cookies to you!), eat so many that I was embarrassed and so would finish the whole packet to hide the evidence.

Buy chocolate while out and eat it all quickly before I got home so nobody would know.

Eat something from the cupboard and then express amazement because it was no longer there! Say I must have thrown it away by accident

.Pop out to buy breakfast croissants or Magnum ice creams. Buy two extra and eat them in the car on the way home so nobody would know.

Eat even when feeling bloated and queasy!

Make excuses to go to the staffroom again and again when someone had put out birthday chocs or cake. If no-on there, or not the same people as on the last visit, help myself.

Wait until the classroom empty to raid the biscuit tin (cookie jar!!).

I could go on!!Any others??

Thanks for confessing. Do you feel better now? ;)

I used to do many of the same secretive eating activities.  I think I used to eat so much in secret because I was afraid to actually eat in front of people. I would eat very healthy or not much at all and then try to satisfy my hunger and cravings alone. I definitely relate to eating an entire box of something just so I could throw it away and have no evidence of it. These are issues that the band cannot fix but I've put a lot of work into changing my eating behaviors and relationship with food due to having the band so, while not perfect, I am 90% better than I used to be.

I am amazed that I can keep a pint of ice cream in the freezer for weeks or months and have a little when I want now. This has a lot to do with knowing that it'll still be there the next time I want it. When you feel food is abundant and you can have anything you want any time you want it, secret binging is less likely (I've found for me at least.)

LOL I remember how amazed I was the first time I had to actually throw OUT icecream from my freezer because it had gone bad. That would've NEVER happened "back in the day".    Now, Blue Bell brand "Nutty Chocolate"?...that particular flavor is my slider. sigh.

- Eating chips (UK crisps****il the sides of your mouth hurt from the salt- obviously don't put them in your mouth one by one, but several at the same time.
-secretly buying sweets and eating them every time nobody is watching
-finding the secret sweets drawers from your family (once mine was empty) and started eating there.
- as a child, the best about a birthday party was not playing games with others, but all the cakes and chocolates
-even when full, you still think you have to finish the plate and you have to take a second time (still fighting this problem)

A lot of the things you wrote Kate, I can associate with. Wow, it's true, I feel so bad posting this now, if you think about the fact that these are things you never spoke to anybody about. I think I wouldn't admit it anywhere but here!

Wow, that one brought back unhappy memories!

Kate! You totally baffled me with the title of this thread! I was thinking, "Hmmm. Things I USE to do..."

I use my stove to cook food.
I use my bed to sleep.

THEN I realized you forgot the "d" in "used" and it changed the whole meaning of the thread for me!    I read things so literally!  I was so totally on the wrong train of thought!

Ever since I became an adult, I don't do the "closeted eating" anymore. I did it when I was a kid because I had to account for everything I ever ate. And I decided when I was an adult that I had to hold myself accountable to no one. And it kind of stuck, I guess.

I used to overeat and I still overeat, though. I never get full, which is unfortunate for me.

It was funny because I truly was waaaaay off on that train over there... when everyone else was on this train over here.   PLUS I'm on corticosteroids and feel all wonky and dizzy and icky, so I don't have my full faculties, I swear!

I used to eat fast food at least 3 times a week. I used to order out pizza, chinese food, subs et.. Large quantities, ate until I was uncomfortably full. I never felt the need to hide my eating, except infront of my father. He is quite judgemental in that area. I know he does it out of love but it's so not helpfull. Even at 43, haven't figured out a way to make him realize that.
