Living a hell after being de-banded due to erosion
I was de-banded a few months ago after getting very sick when my band eroded and cut into my liver. At my best, I had lost 120 pounds with the band and was down to a size 8. Now, within a few months of the band coming out, I re-gained 80 pounds (at the rate of 10 pounds every 2 weeks) and am now a size 18. To add insult to injury, I feel like my metabolism is shot! After doing weigh****chers for 3 weeks, I only lost 1 pound. I am depressed, upset, angry and very lost. I wish I could get the sleeve, but I don't have insurance or money. I really am living in hell.

I think I can understand what you're talking about. I got down to a size 10 but couldn't eat, breathe or poop. I was thin but on the verge of death.
After the band came out, I felt better, physically, at least. But also gained most of the weight back. It sucks to have gone through so much pain and suffering like we have only to have it be for nothing.
AND I NEVER get full. Ever since I got the band, it's like the nerves are damaged so badly that I just don't ever get that feeling of satiety. I understand where you're coming from completely. It's very disheartening.
I used to work out faithfully and could never lose a pound. I kind of gave up, honestly. It felt like a lot of work for nothing. I also feel like my metabolism is shot... and it probably is... I mean, not being able to eat solid foods for 2 years would do that, I would imagine.
The only GOOD thing I can tell you is that you probably have saved yourself from even worse problems by having the band out. You'll heal up, get your momentum back, and at some point feel better. Even though I'm fat again, I feel like I was given a second chance. There are MUCH worse things than being fat. You're going to be OK. I really do feel for you and I am really in the same boat as you. It's hard, but it's not the end, either. Keep going to Weigh****chers, keep talking.
Take care,
Nicci

I am sorry you had to loose your band and are struggleing. My first goal would be to stop the weight gain. Focus on eating the right foods (lowcarb/lowfat. Your portions may be larger than they would need to be to loose, but hopefully you won't gain. Starting to excersise would also be great. Start out slow and gradually increase your duration/intensity. I started out walking slowly on the treadmill for 20 min. I now jog for 30 or walk on an incline for 45. It was really really hard to get started, but I am so glad I did. I feel great. If you want to PM me, I would be glad to keep in touch and give whatever advice/encouragement I can.
Mortifying isn't it! NOTHING I did stopped my weight gain when I was unfilled until I got to my "set weight again". What a ******!. I can only say to you to relax - the gain will stop then you can begin again.
You probably love NYU - my best friend does too, Dr. F. just gave him his 5th band surgery yesterday. I would say you have other choices in the city - I personally love Roslin. NYU is pro, pro, pro band. I seem not to be losing as fast as others with the sleeve but it really is a beautiful surgery. I feel completely normal - I mean completely! I feel as if I've had no surgery at all. With food, enough is enough - it is not that feeling of stop or I'll choke you.
Yesterday my doc said I was perfect - I'm going to try to get a picture here from my cell yesterday. sorry got to close to do that. I will continue my post when I do.
hold on!!!

A pic professional I am not! Anyways I am very happy with my sleeve. My doc is sure that I will get to my low weight again without starving myself. He said I still have the metabolism of a 260lb woman - which was exactly the issue when I lost with the band. We have to work extra hard all the time. We are different than most people. The sleeve does truly rock. I get to eat too!
Hey if you'd like to meet up or talk, I am game. Let me know.
Best,
Leila

I also had to have my band removed due to erosion. It has only been a month for me, so too soon to tell how it will go, but so far I've been maintaining.
What I have been doing is trying to eat like I did when I had the band but just adding more vegetables and fruit. I try to get 80-100g of protein a day (solid protein still works best). I also work out a lot, cardio and weight lifting. I weigh myself EVERY day and of course panic if I'm up at all. But I seem to be fluctuating in about a 3lb range.
I have to say, though, I don't have a great deal of confidence that I will be able to do this over the long run. There is always a little voice in my head reminding me that I was never able to do it before. I just try to remember that I can have another surgery if I gain it all back. I'm not going to be fat for the rest of my life.
Good luck. Try not to be too hard on yourself.
