slipped and had unfill...do I need liquid diet?
I went to my surgeon to get a fill. It had been 2 years and I hadn't had much restriction in awhile so I figured I needed a fill. Nope, I had a slight slip (seen through barium swallow xray). Dr. thinks that the complete unfill will let it fix itself. He didn't mention any special diet like liquids only. Has anyone else had to follow a special diet after unfill to fix slip? I go back in 2 weeks for a fill if slip is fixed.

When I have had unfills, I've been put on the liquid diet plan for 24 - 72 hours. But, obviously, different surgeons have different recommendations; it's best to call yours to get their advice.
I am not slipped but I recently had to be unfilled (I'm pending revision) and was put on liquids for about two weeks to give my esophagus a break because I had been ill for awhile and it was dilated.

My surgeon treats unfills just like fills and recommends 3 days of liquids. I usually do 24 hours unless I'm really swollen and am having trouble.
Be extra vigilant during this period when you are completely unfilled. You still have a band around your stomach and will have some restriction so don't go crazy and try to eat a sub (like I did when I had a complete unfill). It can still cause damage not to mention the weight gain possibilities.
You can do this! Don't risk losing your tool!
Hang in there!

I could (and did many times) eat a sub before the unfill. I haven't had much restriction in about a year. The dr didn't seem at all concerned about the slip. he did the xray and said , :ok, you have a slight slip. Lets unfill you and it should fix itself". That was it. he focused more on getting me back on track and eating small amounts of good quality foods (like I know I am supposed to do). I just don't want to create more of an issue by eating if I shouldn't. Now i am paranoid that it won't fix itself and I will require surgery...or worse, it will suddenly turn into an emergency and require immediate surgery.
Did not have a slip but had no restriction and esophagus was swollen so got unfilled. Getting another barium swallow done on Friday to see if things are ok now. Dr did not give any instructions on eating. I just have been trying to keep with the new caloric count suggested until filled again. It was 1600 calories. I have gained four pounds but since being unfilled. I can live with that. Wish you the best until u get filled again. Take care,
