Stalling Already???
I am 16 days post op. I have lost about 15 pounds since the day of surgery. I have not lost anything in about a week and I am still on the protein shake and liquid phase of the diet. What does this mean? Is it normal? If I am not losing now how I am I going to lose once I am back on food? I am going crazy wondering!!!
Relax, it's completely normal! For one thing, you lose weight like crazy when on liquids but at some point your body needs to hold on to something to HEAL! Remember, you just had surgery?
You're not even supposed to be worrying about losing weight till 6 weeks post op when you can start exercising. You can look back on the boards and see this same question from every single person at 2-3 weeks post op. It's entirely normal. This won't be the last time the scale doesn't move so hang tight and keep following what you know is right.

I am also 16 days post op. and yep, lost 15 lbs right off, and now in the last 5 days, about 1.5 lbs. Here's what my nutrionist told me....right now, my body thinks it's in starvation mode and won't let go. keep doing what you are doing, make sure you are getting all your protein in, and walk. Lets keep the faith together!]
Thanks so much!! I was getting worried a little. I guess Its mostly because I have heard so much negative stuff about the band. But I have also heard negative stuff about every other type of surgery too. How how is it going for you? I have been ok. The only real problem I have had was the gas. It lasted about 5 days out. It was in my neck and it was very painful. The only relief was to lay flat on my back. I hope all is well for you.
Karen-
i think you and i have had the same thoughts! so far, i'm doing OK. I'm at the purreed food stage. the whole idea of purreeing meat ain't happening here . I did make the ricotta cheese bake on friday and ohmygoodness, it tasted good.
I have noticed that with the walking, the pounds are shaking off . i'm also noticing little NSV's....like i can wear normal sized shoes inside of wide. that's huge to me! i have not worn heals in 18+ years. I bought a pair of stilletos
, now, i don't know how to walk in them!
how are you??

I don't like the idea of pureeing mea either. How do you make the ricotta cheese bake? That dounds good. I haven't really started walking yet. My knees and back are the main reason that I got banded. I have already had knee surgery. I wanted to get off about 20 pounds before I started seriously walking. I have worn heel but not stilletos. LOL My ankles say NO.
I go back to the doctor on the 9th. Then I will be off the full liquid diet and on to soft food. YEAH!!
Have a good day!!

HI!
i walked five miles to day...i'm so proud of myself!
the ricotta cheese bake is pretty easy...think stuffed shells without the shells. ricotta cheese, one egg, some oregano, nutmeg, put in a baking dish, throw some marinara sauce on it and some mozz cheese and bake. I then took a half cup for myself, and tossed the rest with pasta for the family-they loved it!
on the 9th i get to go to soft fods too...i can't wait! what should i have????

I also meant to say, don't be shocked if you gain some weight back when you start on pureed or solid foods. A lot of times, the weight change you see daily is due to the actual weight of the food in your body. If I have a big meal or one heavy in salt or carbs, I can "gain" a few lbs but 2 days later it's gone once I go back to eating normally. The best thing is just not to freak out. You've got to heal properly before your body is going to accept any more weight loss.
Hi Betsy,
I was 25 years old when I got banded and healed very quickly. I think I rode again 1 month after surgery. Don't push yourself though, cause I learned that it took a while for those ab muscles to come back where I had the balance like I used to. Also, if you were to fall, that's the most dangerous thing early on because you could open up a suture. This is what my surgeon told me, it's not the riding itself that's risky. So maybe wait 4-6 weeks just to be safe. Goodluck! I know you'll enjoy riding so much more easily once you lose some weight. I never could have imagined the difference I'd feel.
