Want to have band removed

I had my band done in November of 2008 and while I have lost 70 lbs and kept it off it has been hell doing so. I throw up about everyother time I eat. I can feel food getting stuck and then going down sometimes. I can eat the same meal one day and be fine and then the next time I eat the exact same meal I throw up 2 or 3 times. I want to have my band removed. I was wondering if anyone else has experianced the same thing and what your solution was. I went to a doctor in Mexico origionally and would like to stay in the US (local if possible I live in NC) to have it removed.

I had mine done in Nov. '09. Exactly 2 years ago today. Mine never worked. 16 fills and 4 partial unfills in 15 months. The "sweet spot" seems to be about as realistic as a Disney fairy tale! :-(

I do have problems with food at times. Like you can eat one thing with no problem. Then eat it at another point and it doesn't want to go down. I have even had a problem with yogurt going down on a few occasions.

I am very glad you posted about your your band experience. So many see those of us that have lost weight and think that it's awesome, that our bands are working for us. I personally have ONLY lost b/c of dieting.  And you, like many other bandsters have lost weight b/c of the vomiting.

For so many of us the band does NOT work as the manufacturers have advertised it to work! We're screwed, but it would be nice to see some truth in advertising from Allergan and Realize for a change! Those that are pre-op deserve to hear TRUTHFULL and ACCURATE info about the bands from them!!!

Now as far as revising in the US, I will say this. I had my band done in the US by a very qualified surgeon...........and the band has not worked. I don't attribute it to surgeon failure, but BAND FAILURE. I have researched revision and will more than likely have it done in Mexico (would never go to Almanza though!) I was self-pay and hate it that I am in a position of having to pay for yet another surgery b/c of this CRAP-BAND!!!

I had a similar issue with getting sick. Never seemed to find a "sweet spot". I was either very hungry or getting sick. I did manage to loose all my excess weight though. I now chooose to keep my band very loose- it's pretty much like I don't have it. I wouldn't do it again. How about getting a large unfill rather than another surgery to remove? Would be a lot cheaper and safer. Let us know what you decide.

I wi**** was as simple as just having my band unfilled but I had that done about a year and a half ago and it didn't work! Same problems just on a lesser scale. I have no fill currently. I checked with my doctor and the cost would be aprox $4500 plus flight and other pre op expenses. The removal is aparantly very involved! :(

I had looked into getting my band removed as well in Mexico. They said it would cost $2000.  I'm very disappoint with my band as well.  I haven't lost that much weight and the throwing up and feeling like the exorsitics isn't worth it.  Good luck to you.  I can't wait to have mine removed biggest mistake I've ever made.
