Terrible pain of burning / ripping in upper right near ribs
Im 6 weeks out of my Op. Had lapband done and was on the mend after 4 weeks. week 5 i went for my first inflation where the doc poked prodded pushed and ruffled around rather hard. caused me some pain then but when all done was ok. 3 days later i went back and got some inflation removed as too much was put in and i couldnt eat. he did the same poking / prodding etc. That night i could not lay down with out getting a horrific burning / tearing pain in my upper right tummy just near my rib cage..... iv slept sitting up now for nearly 2 weeks, im exhausted! I have seen my doc 5 times in the past 2 weeks and iv had blood tests, scans etc... but they cant find an answer for me.
HAS ANYONE had this pain? my doc said in his 19 years of doing this, he is stumped!! i have seen a second and 3rd opion who now all 3 are working together to get me a solution! Maybe someone on here can help??!!

Well, I have to confess that this is a new one on me. I don't think I've ever heard of this. Is it in the area of your port? Could it be that the stitches holding it in, since you're still fairly recently out of surgery, were irritated by the roughness of the fill?

I was thinking the same thing as Bette. When I had my band removed they took my port out of the same incision that they put in in though, they closed since it was a larger incision they tacked it down to the muscle underneath with internal stitches and when/if I moved the wrong way it would set my teeth on edge with the burning pain it caused. After about three weeks I was ok, but then I moved the wrong way and ripped a few and the pain started all over again.
I would ask if they did any internal stitches and if its possible that they are pulling.

Yeah see i had the same idea as you all. About the stiches. i know they have stiched my port onto the muscle, and i suggested when they were poking and prodding me that perhaps a stich broke. The doc said it may be the case but i wouldnt be getting this kind of pain and it woulf only last for 2 or 3 days. Now its been 2 weeks almost. Even if i slightly touch the right hand side of my ribs they really hurt. - now thats only something that has come to be noticable today. I have had two blood tests which have ruled out infection, so we know its not that. Had an ultrasound, showed the port in the middle of my belly, couldnt see that there was anything wrong with the positioning. I have everyone stumped. - hence why i thought id try a broader range of people just like me on here! Thanks all for your ideas on what it could be!!
Ashlee, no one has mentioned problems with the tubing coming/going to the port. I've heard of several people having problems with the tubing getting entangled inside with something ie intestine, scar tissue, anything on your inside.
While having the band I had lots of left side pain just a bit higher then my waist, come to find out it too was from the tubing irritating in this area.
Good luck

Actually nothing has been mentioned about the tube. Maybe your thoughts are correct, as this pain has only occured since they started pushing and shoving around for my port. Maybe they have pushed the tube into a bad position? I will be sure to mention this when I go and see the doc again on monday. I think I will request cat scan to be done also. Thanks for your imput.
