I am scheduled to have my lap band repaired/replaced in a few weeks.
I was having problems after having lost all my weight plus and have gained back 40 lbs.

Since I was having trouble, I wandered over to the forum on failed bands.......scary stuff.

My Dr has decided that a replacement band is the way to go rather than revise to another type (sleeve, DS)

I am trying to find others in my shoes.

Happy with band, did well, band malfunctioned, got a new band, Happy.

I have been unable to find this on the failed band forum or on the revised forum, Im hoping maybe thats because happy bandsters stay here....

Any support would be appreciated.

The surgeon I am seeing is very well known and I trust him but I would like real life advise

That's great. But what do YOU think?

really, I think that I have to lose these 40 pounds I put on.

I think that I would truly prefer the band if it would help me reach that goal, because I am familiar with it, it worked for me and its the least invasive.

But I also know that I dont want to continue struggling, which is why Im looking for a few success stories.

My situation differs from many posters who dislike their bands in that I actually reached my goal and maintained it for a good while.

The fact that I did damage while delivering my baby seems feasible and I feel like its reasonable.

Any successes out there?????

Of course there are successes out there. I'm one of them, and I still know that, if I had to do it all again, the band would be the only WLS I would be interested in.

I posed my question because it sounded like you have had a tough time with the band and I was wondering if you thought something else might work better for you. If I may ask: how did you damage the band while delivering your baby?

I appreciate your response and support.

Yes, the band has been giving me trouble lately, but not the way I read some people suffer.

Im not in pain, Im not throwing up,

I just lost the ability to reach the sweet spot and hence gained 40 pounds in 2 years.

I cant ignore the fact that it was the tool that helped me lose 85 + pounds and that was my goal.

I cant swear to the fact that the delivery did the damage. All I know is that I was fine before and when I tried to drink and eat after delivery I was spitting saliva into a cup and it was downhill from there.

My dr unfilled me the next day and I have been unable to achieve proper restriction since then.

I did see a new surgeon bec I had lost confidence in the old ones ability to treat me after he told me to remove the band and go on weigh****chers. I am not joking.

So with all this, the new surgeon seems confident that i will be successful with a repaired or replaced band, but I am looking for real life stories not just his statistics.

Okay - followup question - why does he think the band is damaged and needs to be replaced? How can he repair if when he doesn't know what the damage is? I'm confused.

How big have your fills been? If they have been a full cc or more, you may just need tiny amounts. I know that .01cc can make all the difference . . .

I had my original 4cc band replaced with the newer 10cc band when my surgeon went in to repair my hiatal hernia. There was nothing wrong with the old one, but my surgeon believes that the newer one(s) are better tolerated. The new band and I get along pretty well, but it's been a lot of trial and error finding the sweet spot. To me, it was easier with the older, smaller one. (laughs) And we'd get along better if I would stop eating so many sweets and carbs and focus on my damned protein! But that's MY problem, not my little buddy's.

I had many barium swallows and what we see is that my band is slightly tilted almost like its leaning a bit to one side, which may have occured while pushing out a baby. My fills have been incredibly small and slow .1 and even .05

It would stand to reason that if 1cc is too tight so we remove it and then add half a cc it should be good but it never seemed to work that way since the birth.

(laughs) Do kids have to wreck EVERYTHING?

But seriously, at least he has given everything a good looking over. I was hoping he wasn't just making guesses or assumptions.

A lot of people who have to have a band removed prefer to go to another surgery. But that s usually because they either had medical/ surgical issues or because the band simply didn't work for them. You have to do what feels right for you.

No other surgery is an option for me. No personal medical or financial reasons. Just the band is all I am prepared to consider. If I lost mine, it would be a replacement band or nothing.

Seems to me that if the band worked for you and you can specifically say what has caused the problem, and if you like the band - go for i!
