Upper GI Showed a slight slip...
I finally got in to see my doc on Monday and I had an Upper GI. I got to watch the whole thing and then the radiologist played it for me a few times and showed me how slow liquids were passing through my band. It was really quite interesting... Anyway, all the pain and tightness I have been feeling have either resulted in the slip or the pain and tightness was a result of the slip. I don't know. So I had a complete unfill. I still have plenty of restriction right now as I am guessing I have lots of inflamation around the band. I go back in a few weeks to have another Upper GI to see if things are getting better or ?? I'm concerned as I have heard that once you have a slip you are bound to have more. Any info on that will be helpful.
Please tell me your symptoms. I have been very nauseous, feeling heartburn from to chest to my back, left shoulder hurts, abdominal wall very tender. I can get food down, but whenever I try to eat (soup twice today), I have severe heartburn pain. Had 6.6 ccs in my band, got 2 removed and an Upper GI order today. I am still suffering! Any info is appreciated!
I don't think anyone here on OH is medically qualified to diagnose what's on with you. I haven't had that parrticular combination of symptoms, but for me heartburn usually means I need an unfill. If your symptoms don't calm down after your unfill, you may need more removed. Let's hope that your upper GI shows everything's OK in there.

I like watching the images during an upper GI, too.
When my band slipped, I asked my surgeon if that would make me more susceptible to future slips. She said, "Not necessarily." Then I asked her if my untreated hiatal hernia would make me more susceptible to future slips, and she said, "Not necessarily." So I asked her if I should have surgery to correct the hernia, and she said no, not unless my band slips again. It was kind of like a chorus of "Round and 'round the mulberry bush we go." Anyway, that was over 2 years ago and I haven't had any problems since then.
I hope this unfill does the trick for you.

It's not a good sign to still have lots of restriction on a empty band that has slipped. Ideally an empty band should feel like you've never had surgery. But again as you've mentioned the tissues surrounding your band could still be inflammed, in the meantime, if it was me, I would have the doctor put me on some type of meds to help inflammation and any reflux and heal the stomach tissues.

I had great restriction before I ever had a fill. So for at least 4 months I was losing weight like crazy, only able to eat 1/2 cup of food and feeling plenty of restriction. My doc told me that for a few weeks I will have some inflammation, and then things will start to loosen up. I have no reflux and no nausea, so I don't need meds for it. Also, my slip was tiny, but because I am so sensitive to this band, any little change causes inflammation and extreme tightness. Not sure if I will be able to keep my band, but I am going to work with it for as long as I have it :) Thanks all.

hi angi
i just had a small slip a little over a month ago.my heartburn, and difficulty eating and drinking continued to get worse i went back to my surgeon who ordered another upper gi and that one showed my slight slip had become much worse. he scheduled surgery a few days later that was a week ago yesterday and i am happy to say the surgery was successful so far no more heartburn or difficulty with eating and drinking.i too was concerned about future slips and my surgeon says he does not believe if you have a slip that the band is more likely to slip again (i was glad to hear that it put my mind at ease) good luck to you i hope your band goes back into place on its own.i hope this helps you with your concerns...
