Sad that I didn't meet my goal :(

I had my lapband surgery Oct 15, 2010 and very, very disappointed in myself that I didn't meet my goal that I had set  and swore I would reach.  My goal was to lose 8-10 lbs per month which equals to 96-120 lbs. So far I've only lost 57 lbs. I've just been struggling for the last 3 mos with sticking to and following the band rules and just can't seem to get motivated.  Anyone of you going through the same thing or have gone through this and if so how did you get back on track? My birthday is coming up on Nov 27th and would like to lose 15-20lbs, any ideas????  Please help........

If we expect to lose above the bandster average, we are likely to be disappointed! 8 -10 lbs a month only happens for the lucky few and even for them it tends to be at the start.

If the average bandster loss is 1-2 lbs a week, then anythng over 5 lbs a month is fine. 10lbs is an awful lot.

57lbs in a year is just over 1lb a week. So, OK, not the fastestt. But a heck of a lot of weight and within normal expectations.

So don't be very disappointed - celebrate your achievement and accept that there s no reason why we would lose any faster than someone following Weigh****chers.

And a P.S.

You then say you want to lose 15 plus pounds in the next month! Don't set yourself up to fail! That way misery lies!

This is not a race. It is a long, slow process, reversing the poblems of many years.

NORMA Congrats on your 57 pound weight loss...That is equal to a 5000BTU air conditioner!

Now about your goals...with the lap band the average % of EWL is about 50-60% of your excess weight.  The information regarding this is also in the right column under Lap Band system solution,

LAP-BAND ® System Weight-Loss Results
The LAP-BAND ® System is a tool to help you achieve sustained weight loss by limiting how much you can eat, reducing your appetite, and slowing digestion. Remember, though, that the LAP-BAND ® System by itself will not solve morbid obesity, nor will it ensure that you reach your goal weight or even that you lose weight at all. The amount of weight you lose depends both on the band and on your motivation and commitment to a new lifestyle and eating habits. Some people lose more than others, and though you may never reach your ideal weight, chances are good that with weight loss your health and self-image will improve.

Setting goals that are unreasonable and set in stone "time-wise" (losing for a particular date or occasion) and failing that particular goal, sets one up for future disappointment.  Lap band surgery doesn't give the same effect as RNY or DS where the lbs just fall off because of malabsorption.  You must eat a nutritious, low calorie diet and get some exercise and let the band do it's job.  It might take you 5 years to lose your 120 lbs or you might not lose all of it...

This is my goal from a year and a half ago.

Improve my over all health with healthy eating and exercise.  Lower my blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, relieve reflux and extend my lifespan.  Relieve the pressure on my joints to have less pain and improve my mobility and ability to participate in life.

My goal is to reach 170 lbs and I am still 49 lbs away...but I am 71 lbs closer than I was 18 months ago and I can get around a lot better, walk over a mile (I am permanently disabled due to back and knee arthritis) and travel better.  I am now off my GERD meds (since the gallbladder came out last week), my blood pressure is near normal with meds, and my A1c is in the 5's.  My 62nd birthday is Nov 10 and my goal is to lose another pound by then...

Celebrate the small goals or you risk not acheiving the big ones...

Hang in there!
*editied for error in #s to goal lol

I had my band put in Dec. 15, 2010, so far haven't reach my goal neither. I go to doc. each month and remain the same. I chart my progress and foods in a notebook and after looking through it this morning I have gone up and down in my weight in each month. The close II was end of aug. 206. I was so excited and then 210 and now up to 214. Last mo. he said he gave me a full 1 cc. which I would say I was empty. I would say not so. I was able to eat more after than before. I have no restriction at all. I'm so trying to modivate myself I see him no.8 and hope to lost some lbs. by next week. I wish you my best....

I'm pretty sure that to lose weight you need to burn up more calories than you eat.

Even the band doen't change that fact of life (sorry)

Norma you see that little turtle you got there on your little weight ticker. That is the way weight loss with the band is sometimes for some people.  It is not an over night weight loss all the time. You did this to change your life and your mentality towards food not to run a marathon and win.  YOU GOT YOUR WHOLE LIFE LEFT! I am 5 years out and have lost 100lbs but my highest was 330lbs I am now at 230 lbs. I never have gained but do want to lose at least 60 to 70 more lbs.  Am I tired or upset at the slowness of it all. NEVER. Would I trade it.  NOT IN A MINUTE. I started exercising and lifting weights. I make it my business to exercise 5 days a week. I went after my weight loss. GO AFTER IT. May not be this year or next year but if you keep after it oh you're gonna win it just don't get frustrated with that 57 cause that is WAY AWESOME! Keep the good fight of faith and press on. Most people that lose TOO much end up gaining it back and hafta start over again. Slow weight loss is better than that quick stuff. Take your time and do it RIGHT and GET THERE! IF YOU KEEP THE PRESS I KNOW YOU WILL! GOOD LUCK!!

 Take that obesity!
