It is unusual to have restriction without any saline in the band but it does happen. Many people get stuck on dry chicken and on bread so don't use those as your guide.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

I think it is normal at least for me it is. I had mine emptied several months ago and still have a little restriction. I can eat most foods but yes pasta, bread and rice are difficult but we shouldn't be eating them anyway. Chicken is tricky for lots of people especially if it is the breast which tends to be drier than other meat. All I can say is if it gives you trouble it's probably not a good food for you to try eating.

What kind of testing is your bariatric surgeon doing to determine why what's going on with your band?  Or were you just overfilled and taking a time-out?

Captain Obvious says, first, if you are having problems eating some things, STOP eating them until you check in with your surgeon and figure out WHY.

Says the lady who is currently unfilled due to band issues and is likely having a revision sooner rather than later.

As Caramel Blonde wisely said, if certain foods give you problems, don't eat them...unless your list of OK foods shrinks to 3-4 items.

Even after a complete unfill, you still have your band clinging to your stomach, and if you were having a lot of eating issues before the unfill, your stomach and esophagus could still be irritated. It can help to stay on a liquid diet for a few days or a week to help everything calm down, then try purees, then soft foods, then solid food..
