Hi everyone I had my band placed about 3 weeks ago and I can not believe I have only lost 5 pounds. I do not know what I could be doing wrong and honestly I am starting to think I was stupid for wanting this surgery. I really thought I was going to be losing weight right away, at least I was also told this. So I guess what I want to know is did anyone else have trouble with weightloss the first few weeks the band was in? I get my first adjustment in about 3 more weeks I am drinking the premier protien shakes and eating no more than about a 1 cup serving of food. No sodas Junk food and I am staying well under 700 carolies. Im starting to think I am one of those folks that is in that percentage group that this surgery doesnt work for. I dont know what to do

I have been losing very slowly everyone is different I do get discouraged but then I think about the saying  slow and steady wins the race.  I am not sure about your Dr or nutritionist but mine had me on 800 calories on my third week.  Your body is still healing so give it time & don't give up.

Good Luck

It is sensible not to start out expecting  the sort of loss that people with surgeries which  cause malabsorption of food can expect. We lose no faster than someone following a programme like Weigh****chers. The average loss is 1-2 lbs a week, so you are well on target.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

This is the recovery period. Be patient... which I know is hard!

Your body went through incredible trauma with surgery and is now trying to heal. Give yourself a break and don't expect too much too soon, OK?

You shouldn't have been told that you'd be losing weight right away because it's not necessarily true. It is for some people, not others.

Hang in there. I bet you'll notice a difference after the band is filled somewhat. (Don't get it overfilled in an attempt to lose more quickly. It causes big problems if it's too tight.)

Good luck, Jordyn.

Take care,
Nicci

Hi Nicci Thanks so much.
I was thinking something was wrong becuase the doctor I am seeing told me I would be losing 1 pound a day. When it wasnt happening I started getting upset and thinking maybe something was wrong.
Thanks a gain.

My doc said the first 6 weeks is all about healing. When I went for my 2 week check up he told  not to expect a lot or any weight loss during the net 4 weeks. If is about healing and maintaining. Please don't get discouraged because you will on sabotage yourself.

 Jordyn,
First of all congrats on your band.
1 lb a day.  I have never heard of that. I agree with the responses you recieved. The first weeks are definitly for healing. I was told not to expect too much until the first fill. It is important to remember every "body" is different so everyone goes at their own pace. I am a slow loser, it has taken me a long time to lose what I have. It is much too soon to decide weather it is working or not.
Just remember to drink water, go slowly and walk walk walk.
Good luck
