HELP!!!!!!
I'm looking for anyone who has had surgery in Memphis with Virginia Weaver. I am considering using her for my surgery BUT after researching a little I haven't been able to find any recent information from anyone who has seen her this year.
I'm not sure if I should go to Memphis or Nashville my insurance will only cover a "center of excellence"
Any information will be helpful!!! :)
I like Dr. Weaver very much, and her NP, Vanessa (who does fills) is great, and the office is run efficiently, but....
It's my understanding that St. Francis recently added another bariatric surgeon to the center who is 1000% against the band. And, I believe that Dr. Weaver took a long leave of absence earlier this year for unknown reasons, and I don't know if she's back to work now. If you post about it on the Tennessee forum, you may be able to get more info. You could ask when you call the office but you may not get a straight answer from them.
The only other bariatric surgeon I know of in Memphis, who does only band surgery, is a guy (can't remember his name) at Baptist who apparently has the bedside manner of Attilla the Hun.
So for those reasons I would suggest that you consider Nashville instead of Memphis. I have a friend who had RNY at Vanderbilt and had a great experience with their bariatric program. I wouldn't want to travel to Nashville but neither would I want to have surgery in Memphis only to find that my surgeon might not be committed to the program on a long term basis. I mean nothing at all negative about Dr. Weaver when I say that...for all I know, she's on maternity leave...but if the other guy at St. Francis hates the band, all you'll have for medical support is Vanessa, the NP, and if you have a problem that requires further surgery, Vanessa won't be able to help you.

The other doctor is Woodman I think, he does not operate in a COE so my insurance will not cover him. He comes to Jackson to do fills.
Guess I need to be looking into Nashville.
Another question; how do I get on the tennessee forum? Where I went and thought I was there didn't look like anyone had been on recently and I posted this same thing there.
I'm new at this whole thing so I want to find out as much stuff as possible
Thanks so much for all your information.
Are you located near Jackson? If so, you could also check out Dr. Oldham, who is based in Lexington, KY but also operates at Jackson Purchase Hospital in Mayfield.

I don't know if Jackson Purchase is a COE.
There's also Dr. David Geller in Louisville.

Good luck!
