2 days post op.....lots of pain!!!
I need some advice!! I am 2 days post op and am having horrible pain in my tummy and shoulders. I am not necessarily nausious, more of a bubbly/gurgling feeling, and i constantly feel like I need to burp. Is this normal? Only one incision is hurting, but i figure thats fine. When does the pain go away?? I feel like my meds barely take the edge off it. Help!!
I am a stomach/side sleeper also! So I hear ya!! Darn it. Ive made sure to keep up on my pain meds, walking as much as i can, taking really deep breaths a few times each hour...so we'll see. Hopefully others may have some other advice. But CONGRATS on your band day!!! Ours are the same!!! Hope you get some rest!
You're not whining, yes it hurts and yes the pain in your shoulder is the air that is trying to get out of your body. SOmetimes I wouls sit and drink some water or juice and when I would get up I would belch. It will feel wonderful everytime so try to keep them coming. As for the pain it took mine almost 2.5 weeks to stop; I still have one area that tends to feel like Im being poked really hard by where my port is. I am hoping that will stop soon and if it doesnt Ill be on the phone with my doctor.
Anyways I can tell you that the air takes maybe 3 to 4 days to get out and you should be able to sleep on the opposite side and by week two you should be able to sleep on both your sides just becareful and move slow. I too am a side sleeper. I think the gurggling is from being hungry or you stomach trying to adjust to what is going on.
Hang in there and know everything will be ok if youre worried something is wrong dont hesitate to call your doctor.
Sincerely,
Jordyn

Walk as much as possible to disperse the gas. The CO2 gas is the culprit for most of that doggone pain.
And, feeling like you need to burp constantly is normal, too.
Don't put heat directly on your incisions, but try a ho****er bottle under your left ribcage. (Not TOO hot, of course!) It will help alleviate the pain at least a little. It helped me to sleep... and that's the best healer.
Hope you all feel better soon.

Walking truly is the best way to get the gas to dissapate. Do it frequently. A heating pad over a towel or something helps with the pain. I belched all the time. It is normal. When you are able to get some big ones out it feels really good.
Keep up with the pain meds until you don't need them, by keeping ahead of the pain you get better control. I required pain meds longer than most due to my fibromyalgia messing with pain impulses, but as long as I took them I felt great in between.
I was able to sleep on my side from the first night because I knew I could never sleep on my back or in a chair. It hurt to roll over, but I managed the whole night and within 10 days was on my belly again, too. Each one is different, but give it a try, it may work out. Each day will improve some. I think my worst days were 3 and 4, though after day 3 I improved rapidly.
Good luck to both of you, and congratulations! Welcome to the loser's bench.

I had surgery on Tuesday and I am feeling incredibly well. I can say that EVERYTHING you guys are saying I experienced this week. I made it a point to walk, walk, walk this week...and take naps when I needed them after walking (it is hard on such little calorie intake...I know) I have found just sitting on the toilet and being patient has let some of that gurgling release itself just a little bit. The burping, even just the little ones inside my mouth made a huge release as well.
I will tell you I had to stop the pain meds on Wednesday afternoon (just 24 hours post surgery) because they were making me horribly nauseous...but I did get some childrens liquid tylenol and I have taken that at bedtime (and until today mid-day).
I too feel one incredibly sore spot, but as I have discovered...it is not an incision...I am pretty sure it is the very bruised spot where I presume my port is now located...can anyone confirm this?
I have been using a bag of frozen peas on my tummy over the sensitive area for about 20 minutes every couple of hours and that seems to be helping LOADS!
