Many people with the band have issues getting in the solid healthy proteins that are needed in order to lose weight, I know several who have issues with getting stuck on them even when the band was completely empty. Many times, this leads to a vicious cycle of mushy foods that WILL go down (and are often high in calories and do not let you feel full for long) vs. vomiting every time you try and eat something healthy. Guess which one wins out?

It is also a myth that the stomach will stretch out to it's full size.

I just wanted to post to thiknena19, sometimes the band doesn't work.  I've been very fortunate, but I have several friends who never got restriction at all.  They have done what they were supposed to do and worked hard only to lose a little - and that was by dieting or by being forced to eat poorly - just to be able to eat.  As the other poster states, sometimes the band can be too tight causing you to not be able to eat healthy foods.  Then you have some fluid removed - only to lose all restriction.  It can be a vicious cycle that never ends.  As you know, or you will find out (since you're newly banded) the Lap Band is the most difficult of all WLS, it doesn't always offer the restriction it promises.  When I see this - it makes me very sad, because it is a life changing decision and many times, these people spend their life savings on it - with very high hopes that they will be able to lose the weight.

I think it's important for us to remember that.

Honestly, with your past history with the band I would not do it. I would look into a RNY revision, or to the DS.

Hi,
I had a BOB on 10/11. It is so new I really can't give you any advise on it or report on how it is working. I have lost weight but I believe it is mostly due to gall bladder issues prior to surgery and the post op liquid diet that I am still on!
I would go with your gut feelings on this one. You have already had the band. You know that it did not work for you. Do you truly believe that you can make it work for you this time? If yes, GREAT! Go for it.! If you are unsure, don't do it.
You only recently found out what the problem was. I have to tell you that I had put on about 75 lbs from my goal weight and had kept telling my Dr that I was hungry, really hungry, right after eating. It was not until an endoscopy done to look for an ulcer that it was determined that my stoma was distended and that was why I got hungry so quickly after eating. JUST knowing that it was not head hunger helped me to not really control it, but put it at bay by having some baby carrots or grapes when I got hungry between meals. It helped to take about 25lbs off before I even had the BOB done.
You could just give it a little bit of time and see if now that you KNOW what is going on, you can control it.
Either way, good luck to you in your decision and with your consultation with your Dr.

Madelin, I hear your frustration.  It's good that you're honest with yourself - admiting that getting another band may not be wise.  I tend to agree with the others.  I'd consider D.S.  -  I wouldn't even try the Sleeve - I would just go for DS.  That's totally my opinion on this.  You need to sit down with your doctor and discuss other options besides the Band.  I'm sorry you had so many issues with the LapBand.

Hi, I had a BOB on June 23rd, Im down 40lbs. I had my RNY in 2002, went from 305 to 175 then back up to 250 before my BOB.  I am now hovring at 207ish.  I love my Band. I have restriction for the first time in 5 yrs, I eat very little, I can eat anything and everything. I have 7.2 cc in my large 14cc band. I've had 4 fills, I think. There are about a dozen of us on here who I know of who have had the BOB.  Check out my profile, most have friend-ed me or me them.

Good luck in whatever you de****

How big does your doc think your pouch should be at this point?  The pouch is supposed to stretch a bit over time.  Half a soda can is, what, about six ounces?  I was told that my pouch was supposed to hold eight or ten ounces of food by one year post op.

I would assume that BOB could lead to all the problems that you can have with just the band.  It's not something I would ever be comfortable getting, but only you can decide if it's right for you.  Why does your doctor think you will get restriction with a band this time and that you will be able to eat healthy stuff with the band when you couldn't before?

I don't understand why you couldn't eat anything healthy when you had the band, but I guess that's another matter.

I'll address why she couldn't eat healthy with the prior band.  If the band is too tight, you will slime and vomit.  So you tend to eat the foods that go down easily.  Unfortunately, bad things go down easily - solid proteins which are the healthy foods - don't.  Chips, ice cream, cookies go right down.  Veggies do not go down so easy if you're too tight.  Sometimes with the LapBand it's hard to get that "sweet spot" - you can be either too loose or too tight, but yet never find the green zone.
